  4. Distribute blue GTKU pamphlets stamped with contact information.Introduce yourself and the Red Cross. The goal of this presentation is to introduce you to your local Red Cross, let you know about our programs, and give you what you and your families need to know about sending a Red Cross message.Red Cross El Paso was founded October 10, 1911 during the Mexican Revolution after Red Cross volunteers had worked for nearly 10 years in the local community. In 2011, we’ll celebrate 100 years in El Paso and we’ve spent every bit of that time with Soldiers at Ft. Bliss as it has grown from a small cavalry outpost on the Rio Grande to a major FORSCOM Installation with soldiers deployed all over the world.Red Cross has three locations in El Paso. The Chapter Office, our headquarters, is located off Montana Ave. Between Hawkins and McRae. Our Ft. Bliss Office is located on Slater Road directly behind Garrison Command. And we have a Station at William Beaumont Army Medical Center (WBAMC) where 200 Red Cross volunteers work with wounded warriors and veterans. Red Cross El Paso has three major departments that offer services to the local community: Disaster Services, Health & Safety Services, and Service to the Armed Forces.
  5. The Red Cross El Paso Strong Foundations Program brings all Red Cross programs together in a comprehensive package for military families. - Get To Know Us (GTKU) is a basic Red Cross presentation (Like This One) - Coping With Deployment helps families stay strong when Soldiers are away - Be Red Cross Ready (BRCR) prepares families for emergencies - Red Cross training in CPR and First Aid can empower families to save livesTogether, these Red Cross programs form a Strong Foundation for Family Readiness that can add value to FRG and other family programs on Ft. Bliss.
  6. Coping With Deployment is a free workshop designed just for military families going through deployment. Licensed Counselors and Therapists donate their time to work with the Red Cross and help military families share their experiences and learn about coping strategies. The four-hour workshop combines modules for adults and kids.
  7. *This is a timed slide that will advance automatically over 1 minuteRed Cross provides Emergency Messaging in the event of a serious Emergency in the Immediate Family.Immediate Family: Parents, Grandparents, Siblings, Children, Grandchildren, Only Living Blood Relative, Guardian, Spouse, Spouse’s Immediate FamilyWhen a family member calls the Red Cross, the Red Cross Caseworker needs to know how to find the soldier and how to verify the emergency. - Soldier’s: Name, Rank, Social, Unit, Military Address, UIC - Direct contact information for the Doctor, Hospital, Funeral Home, etc Red Cross then verifies the information and the emergency and contacts the Soldier’s Unit to deliver the message. Once the message has been delivered, the soldier’s Chain of Command decides whether to grant emergency leave. Military family members not in the USA should contact American Red Cross and provide direct contact information in country. Only American Red Cross provides this service to US Service Members and their FamiliesRed Cross does not currently pay for a soldiers flight home in the event of an emergency but we do act on behalf of Army Emergency Relief to authorize an AER loan for a soldier after business hours or on weekends when AER is closed. .
  8. *Contact info can be distributed on stamped GTKU pamphletsCall Ft. Bliss Office for any local need800 number is provided for service members and families - Red Cross on Ft. Bliss is easy to find: Headquarters is building 2, Garrison Command is building 1, Red Cross is directly behind Garrison Command.
  9. Red Cross depends on dedicated volunteers to carry out our mission. - Soldiers attempting to earn promotion points may volunteer with Red Cross on post or at our two other locations after receiving approval from the chain of command. - Family members will find that Red Cross volunteers are just like them and that they can learn a lot about local services and the community. - Call Red Cross Ft. Bliss to volunteer.
