The Sacramento pikeminnow is a native freshwater fish found in California. It lives in the deepest parts of bodies of water between 35-39 degrees F and feeds on insects, crustaceans, and frogs. The fish can live up to 9 years, reaches about 40cm in length, and lays around 15,000 eggs per reproductive cycle. While not endangered, the Sacramento pikeminnow is believed to negatively impact populations of salmon, steelhead, and trout through predation.
