2. Childhood in Brooklyn
Aaron Copland was born
Nov.14,1900 in Brooklyn, NY.
Aaron is a great composer, but wasn’t
born in a musical family.
His parents were Russian and had
never even been to a concert.
He had learned about music from his
sister.
3. Learning to be a composer
At the age of 17 Aaron knew he wanted
to be a composer.
In Manhattan, he began taking private
music lessons.
During Aaron's free time he went to
many performances like the New York
Symphony.
Following his passion for European
music, he moved to Paris from New
York.
For a long time he studied with Rubin
Goldmark.

Ballets: Billy the Kid, Rodeo, and
Appalachian Spring.

6. What Aaron did at work
Aaron was an
author, composer, conductor, and a
teacher.
Aaron traveled around the world
conducting and recording work.
In the 1920s and 1930s Aaron
organized a lot of concerts with other
composers.
Aaron wrote ballet music, music for
films and radio, and patriotic works.
7. Later in Life
His last job was as a teacher at
Tanglewood, Harvard, and the New
School for Social Research.
Aaron conducted his last symphony in
1983.
On a tragic day, poor Aaron died. He
died in New York City.
It was Dec. 2,1990 when Aaron died
of old age.
