in HEAT Online. These techniques and strategies can be used for most racing
games as they focus on the fundamentals.

You’re allowed to try the game for free without registering by pressing
INSTANT PLAY when you start the game for the first time.

We obviously recommend you register. This game is addictive and you won’t
want to start over from scratch because you forgot to register.

TIP: Confirm your registration. Any account not confirmed will be
deleted after 3 months!

HEAT ONLINE BASICS
The focus of HEAT Online, previously known as Level-R and Project Torque, is
to win races. It’s an online MMORG (Massively Multiplayer Online Racing
Game) that’s FREE TO PLAY!

OVERVIEW

One of the many differences of HEAT is that it’s a realistic 3D racing game.
There are no battle items like missiles knocking you out of first place right
before you cross the finish line. However, they did add battle items for some
race modes like Sumo.

Instead you’ll need to become a better racer than your opponents to win.

GAME PLAY
The game play offered by HEAT Online is a pretty realistic driving
experience. You can choose the view you like and start racing.

You’ll notice that as your car gets damaged the damage system changes your
game play. This further adds to the realistic driving experience.

EXAMPLE: If you notice a wheel is damaged you might need to compensate
your steering to stay on a straight path.

GRAPHICS

The graphics are the greatest draw to HEAT Online. They are really top-notch
for a free to play game.

Impressive graphics are very realistic and detailed. Car damage will be seen.

MULTIPLAYER
Thunder Alley has you competing against 20 other players in a NASCAR style
race. There are six different game modes to choose from.

RACING FUNDAMENTALS
Now that you know the basics of HEAT Online and why you should learn how
to win, it’s time to reveal what you need to know so you can start winning.

First, it is important you understand and learn racing fundamentals. This is
key as winning races depends on your ability to drive.

Understanding the fundamentals of the game is extremely important if you
want to cross that finish line first.

Before you can even consider using advanced strategies and driving tactics
you need to become a master of the basic gameplay.

As with any ordinary racing strategy, you usually want to drive fast without
making mistakes while taking advantage of your opponent’s errors.

Learning the fundamentals is crucial. It’s hard to recover from a horrible
mistake in a race.

MASTER YOUR UNIT CONTROL

There are two ways to drive. You can use the typical keyboard, a gamepad or
get a steering wheel.

TIP: A steering wheel will improve your handling making it easier to
race. It also makes it more realistic.

You need to become familiar with your controls. This will only happen as
you play the game more.

As everybody is different and likes different types of controls, you’ll need to
determine what works best for you.

Make sure you get a controller you are comfortable with.

KEYBOARD CONTROLS

You can fully customize the controls to suit your needs, but here are the
default control settings:

If you are going to be using your keyboard to race with you’ll want to stick to
the first-person, cockpit view mode.

TIP: There are twitch responses of the arrow keys for turning the car
while racing. Be aware of this if you play in a different view mode.

KEYBOARD SHORT CUTS

Learn the keyboard short cuts so you can perform many actions at once. It’s
essential to multitask for optimal performance.

MASTER THE TRACK

Among beginners, a common problem is that they don’t know the racetracks.
Being new gives you a disadvantage when compared to players who have
played for days, months or even years. An experienced racer can simply
outdrive you by knowing what’s ahead.

An essential skill to have is knowledge of the race tracks. This is achieved
by memorizing the terrain and turns. The more you race the better you’ll
know the tracks. This will give you an advantage over other players.

MASTER YOUR SHIFTING

When it comes to shifting, you want to watch your tachometer. Don’t rely
on speed as it can be an inaccurate indicator. Each car is different. This
becomes more challenging as chips are added and upgrades are made.

ADVANCED TECHNIQUE TO SHIFTING

Learn the engine sound your car makes that dictates the best shifting point.
After a little practice it will become second nature.

You’ll soon learn that shifting by the sound of your car’s engine will come
naturally with minimal efforts. And this will be a tremendous help if the game
glitches and you can’t see your tachometer during the race!

MASTER DRAFTING

Improve your racing pole positions by learning how to draft effectively.
Drafting is when you follow the car in front of you closely. You are using their
trailing wind to gain speed.

Stay just behind the car in front of you to help you avoid using unnecessary
turbo use. You’ll also put yourself in position to slingshot in front of your
opponent.

Benefits of drafting:

 Avoid using extra turbo
 Increase or refill to your nitro levels
 Use less gas

If you draft as much as you can, you could keep your nitro levels full the
entire race.

MASTER CORNERING

Entering corners at the correct
place is called the ideal entry
point. By knowing how to enter
the turn at the right time and
location you’ll master cornering
quickly.

Look at the diagram to the left
and you’ll see how to enter a
turn at the best place.

Racing comes down to
cornering. You want to sustain
the highest speed possible when turning to maintain speed and lower your
lap times. Veer slightly to the left before making a right turn and you
can maintain higher speeds. The opposite is true for making a left turn.

The straighter your lines the faster you’ll exit the turn, while other drivers
need to slow down. This will give you a significant edge over your
competition.

MASTER BRAKING

When you are entering a moderate turn use your standard brakes. Only use
your brakes slightly until the middle of the corner. As soon as you hit the
middle point hit your gas pedal. You’ll straighten out the car quickly.

TIP: Go slow on slow corners and fast on fast corners.

Avoid using the brakes when it’s a light turn. You’ll learn when to use your
brakes and when they are not necessary when you learn the tracks.

Some drivers will drive very fast and crash on purpose. They say it helps
maintain high speeds and gets them ahead of their competition.

We think it’s more important to learn how to drive to help with all around
racing, instead of a quick fix that may or may not work.

A Note on Ramming

You will quickly earn a bad reputation. Not only will other drivers in the
community become your enemy, but ramming is a cheap way to win a race.
The regulars will end up working together to block you and keep you from
winning.

There are some times when you’ll want to block your competition and might
need to bump them out of the way. It’s okay to do this sometimes.

You want to block on the last lap.

A win is a win, but don’t make it a habit unless you love to play Sumo mode.
Then you’ll need to ram as much as possible.

CHOOSE THE LION TO START
Now that you understand the fundamentals of the game itself and how to
race, you need to pick the best car.

As a new racer your selection for racecars is limited. You’ll need the best car
to help you win against other opponents. That’s why you need to choose the
Lion Executive Sedan.

This is the absolute best starter car for winning races.

IN GAME DESCRIPTION: A sedan with stable power and handling, aimed
at beginners. But, tune it up to destroy the competition.

GENERAL CAR INFORMATION: The Lion has well-rounded capabilities
and performs great for inexperienced drivers.

Top Speed: 116 mph
Power: 140 horsepower
Acceleration: 10.2 seconds

UPGRADE CAR OFTEN

At the beginning of the game you’ll only have a limited amount of money to
spend on upgrading your car.

Many new players make the mistake of saving their cash to spend on great
parts later.

Don’t be one of them.

The competition will be harsh as you enter races as a new inexperienced
driver. You’ll want to keep your car tuned and upgraded.

So spend your resources and upgrade your car as often as possible.

Upgrades to help start out:

 Stage 2 body
 Stage 4 other items
 No brakes

LION TUNED UP STATS: With the right settings, the Lion is a “low class monster”
and has been known to win against better cars.

Top Speed: 127 mph
Power: 163 horsepower
Acceleration: 8.4 seconds

Many times you’ll need to buy parts in succession so don’t think about saving
to upgrade with the high level parts.

Let us repeat. Upgrade often.

IMPROVE ACCELERATION AND BOOST HORSEPOWER

It’s best to start with tuning up the transmission and the chip set in order to
boost acceleration as much as possible.

New racers are typically the last to leave the starting line as their cars have
limited acceleration power.

With good acceleration you’ll be on a more even playing field with the other
players who are level 10 and lower.

POWER UPGRADES

Upgrade the power of your car for enhanced performance.

TIP: Handling with the Lion improves with a steering wheel controller.

AVOID COSMETIC UPGRADES

A common mistake made by rookie players is to “pimp” their car out. Don’t
make this error. You your game money wisely and you’ll gain an advantage
over other new drivers.

Tuning Tips:

 ABSA – Find the right balance for you. You will get better brakes, but
find you cannot gain speed as quickly through turns.
 AESP – Helpful for long high speed races, but will stop you from
drifting.
 ASA – Don’t adjust.
 DCS – Leave it at around 50%.
 ECHS – Test and see what you think. Sometimes it will help your car
turning abilities. You need to find the right setting for you.

GET THE JUNK OUT OF THE TRUNK

You’ll need to ensure that a power-up is in your trunk before you start racing
if you plan to use it during the race.

However, a common mistake for new drivers is to load up the trunk thinking
they’ll need something in a race and then not use it.

TIP: Put a power-up in your trunk ONLY if you plan to use it.

As each item has a limited amount it will be subtracted from the total
amount in your inventory whether you use it or not.

Helpful Trunk Items for New Drivers:

 Racing line
 Oil enhancement – 10%

 Grip tires or drift pack (drifting is harder to earn RP as a beginner)

EARN RP FASTER

Race Points (RP) are the points you earn when racing. This money is then
used to customize your car and their performance. To improve your rankings
you’ll need to earn RP fast!

DID YOU KNOW? HEAT Online has been known to glitch and award
massive amounts of RP/XP to players. Don’t expect this.

WAYS TO EARN RP:

Race

The longer time you spend playing and racing the more RPs you’ll earn. The
same is true with placing.

In-Game Tutorials

Follow Sylvi as she directs you through the important functions of playing
and offers suggestions. You’ll be given a task to follow through with. Once
completed you are awarded RPs.

FIRST TUTORIAL: After completing the first tutorial you are rewarded
with a Cobra Coupe. That’s a level 42 car!

And you’ll get 3 day grid girls! They’ll double your RP/XP for 3 days in
every single mode.

THIRD TUTORIAL: The third tutorial gives you a drift car for 3 days.

There are also daily tasks, like the clean sector (every other day) that gives
you 10 each RP/XP 2x’s.

Collect Puzzle Pieces
Look for puzzle pieces on the track. When you collect six puzzle pieces of the
same type you get a reward. Each time you’ll get a different item.

Unlock Missions
There are single player missions in the game that will reward you with new
cars, in addition to RP.

As there are a limited number of keys available when first starting out, you
want to unlock the first mission in each section.

The best place to start unlocking missions is the yellow key practice missions.
You’ll learn the tracks while earning.

Once you complete a few of these tutorial missions, look for the red key
tasks. For example, you might need to reach a certain speed limit on a Tokyo
track or jump a specific distance. These are the easier missions that most
beginners are able to complete.

Exploit Certain Game Modes

Choose to race in the three modes that earn you the most RP when you race.
These are Sumo, Capture the Flag and Explorers. We’ll go into more detail in
the next chapter.

Get 3-Day Cars

If you have the funds you can rent cars for 3 days in Single Play. Since these
are higher class cars you get higher RP/XP bonuses. After it expires you can
re-rent it. This goes for all cars up to class 5.

Other ways to make RP:

 Complete the Challenges
 Buy Race Girls
 Double Up

START RACING

SUMO

Bump your opponents off the platform to score points. The racer with the
most points wins. This is a fun and easy way to learn the tracks and your car’s
handling. The bonus of earning a lot of RP makes it even better.

CAPTURE THE FLAG

Take the flag and maintain control of it as you drive through the gates. You’ll
also need to protect your own base as the other team will steal the flag and
drive through.

TIP: Watch your mini-map. You’ll see where the flag carrier is going to
go. And you can decide what to do to fake out the competition.

If you’re playing Team Capture the Flag, you need to work together as a
team. If a team member gets the flag first, immediately look to your mini-
map to decide on the fastest opponent car. Now it’s your job to block him
from reaching your teammate.

EXPLORER

Explorer can last for up to an hour. You’ll make at least 15,000 RP. Keep an
eye out for surprise items and upgrades in addition to red, blue and green
coins scattered on the track.

Basically you are racking up on miles and grabbing random items while
cruising around the track.

Some new players make the mistake of starting a room and leaving their
computer expecting a huge payout. The game is smarter than this.

TIP: Ensure you move your car every few minutes, perhaps between
surfing the internet and checking your email. You can earn BIG!

Compete against class 1 cars for an advantage. You’ll also want to pass on
the left, draft whenever possible, and block on the final lap.

OTHER GAME MODES

In the beginning it’s best to avoid playing in Drift, VS, and TA (Thunder Alley)
because you’ll make NO RP. RP is essential to winning.

But after you start winning and upgrade your car you can head into the other
game modes with a better chance of winning.

VS

A more traditional mode, this is pure driving competition as you race on
circuit tracks against up to 7 other drivers. The fastest car wins.

Drift

If you’re looking to slide your car around corners this is the game mode for
you. The longer the drift and the higher the speed you perform the drift you’ll
earn more drift points.

Thunder Alley (TA) – Thunder Alley is only accessible to players who reach
level 15. Once you reach it, get the Economic Engine, -30%, and add +5%
octane. You’ll extend fuel consumption for a few laps. Oval race tracks
depend on your pit strategy.

Tips for Thunder Alley racing:

 Pass on the inside
 Follow the optimal racing line
 Hug the inside of the curves

Pass on the inside

This is courtesy and expected in this game mode. As drafting is common,
other drivers will use the reduced air resistance path behind a lead car and
slingshot around them into the lead.

It’s polite to allow racers to pass on the inside. If you notice you are being
passed move slightly to the outside and allow it.

Follow the optimal racing line and hug curves.

You want the best race line to keep your speeds up. Hug the inside of curves
and release your steering wheel grip as you near the end of the turn. Your
car will naturally veer to the outside wall, let it.

This type of driving allows you to get higher speeds throughout the race as
you are following a straighter path.

Filling the tank and pitting

The fuel gauge is representing actual fuel. Thus, fuel management is
extremely important in Thunder Alley. To increase fuel and maintain an
advantage over other drivers keep your tank only as full as you need it.

TIP: Helpful trunk items include fuel 30% and engine 20%. These two
items will help you extend your fuel tank.

If you don’t have to fill your tank to 100%, don’t. If you are racing 40 laps you
can usually get 17/18 laps out of the initial full tank.

TIP: Crash into a wall close to the electronic billboard reading “pit
speed 55 mph” to drop from 180 mph as quickly as possible. You need
to avoid drive through penalties.

If you have to pit twice, fill the tank to 5/8 full each time to maximize your
cars’ effectiveness and keep your lead. In this example you’ll want to pit on

lap 18 and lap 29, filling to 5/8 each time to keep your car lighter and limiting
time spent in the pit.

STILL NOT WINNING?
Now that you’ve learned the exact process you need to take in order to
become a master HEAT Online racer, we want you to go over the top three
things that may happen to you when you’re trying to follow these steps.

These are the two most common hang ups that stop beginner drivers from
winning races, and here’s how you can overcome them:

HANG-UP #1: FEELING OVERWHELMED

Are you finding yourself feeling overwhelmed by trying to learn all of the different
race tracks and game modes?

Sometimes it can be frustrating to try to learn all of these brand new maps at
once, especially if you’re jumping around in the different game modes.

If you find yourself experiencing this, don’t worry. It happens to most new
players.

SOLUTION #1

You need to focus on one game mode and only one. You want to play the
same game mode to become more familiar with it.

Play as often as it takes for you to feel like you know it like the back of your
hand.

HANG-UP #2: ENTERING CORNER TOO FAST AND SLIDING OUT

Are you finding you are entering corners too fast? Is this happening more
often than you think it should?

When you enter turns fast you can drift out of control and lose speed. This
can allow your competition to get in front of you and cost you the race.

SOLUTION #2

Try this technique to see if it works for you. When you find yourself entering
a turn at too fast a speed, for example a right turn, turn your wheel to the
left.

This might sound strange and the wrong thing to do, but try it. It usually
works just fine and helps you maintain control of your car.

You will notice that you lose some speed, but you’ll learn how to corner by
following the “Master Cornering” section in this ebook. This is just a way to
not lose complete control.

Another common turning obstacle is overcompensating. Adjust your car
gently instead.
