Monroe Motivated Sequence example outline using only a few sentences (you should do a much long outline with lots of info).
Attention Getter: Imagine that you are laying in a dark, gloomy hospital room waiting to find out if you will receive an organ that is crucial to your survival. Imagine knowing that there are 110,614 other people also on the same waiting list, and there were only 28,664 transplants completed last year. Your next breath may depend on an organ donation. However, you receive news that there aren’t enough organs available for you to have a transplant.(REPETITION)
Transition: Unfortunately, lack of organ donors is a problem for many people.
B. Need (= the problem): People are dying daily due to lack of organ donors. (ALLITERATION)
Every ten minutes, someone is added to the organ transplant waiting list, and each day, an average of 18 people die from lack of organ donations + SOURCE
DISSONANCE:
SAD STORY + SOURCE
FEAR APPEAL-If we don’t solve this problem, people will continue to die from lack of organ donations.
Summary reasoning statement
Transition: So what’s the answer to this problem?
C. Satisfaction (= the solution): More people must be willing to donate their organs in order to solve this dilemma.
1 organ donor can save up to 8 lives (i.e like a quote from an expert saying it is)
For every 13 organ donors, 104 lives could be saved. (like projected statistics of how this solution would positively affect the current problem)
evidenceSOURCE
POSITIVE APPEAL/PHYSICAL NEEDS
Summary reasoning statement
Transition: So what will the future look like if we do nothing?(or if we implement this solution if using a Positive visualization)
Negative Visualization: (paint a very long VL bleak future picture if nothing is done ) If people choose not to become organ donors, people will lose their lives as a result. You or your loved ones could, one day, be a part of the 110,614 people who need an organ donation. What if there is an organ shortage due to lack of donors? - FEAR APPEAL
Physical Appeal: If nothing is done to increase the number of organ donors, patients on the waiting list will more than likely die a slow, painful death.
Psychological Appeal: Imagine knowing that you or your loved one will die because no organ donations were available.
Transition: So in closing, what can we do?
E. ACTION: (actually your conclusion)
Lack of organ donors is a major problem in America. In order for a transplant to take place, organs must be screened and blood types must match. Therefore, it is crucial that there is a wide variety of organs to choose from.
To solve the problem associated with lack of organ donors, we must volunteer to be organ donors ourselves.
If more people decide to give the gift of life, many lives can be saved and the organ donation deficit will be minimal, and maybe even non-existent.
4. CALL for ONE SPECIFIC ACTION: Go home tonight and visit DonateLifeNC.org in your web browser. Register to become an organ donor on their website and help give the gift of life.
