This talk was given at WebRTC Expo on November 21st by Brad Bush, CMO of GENBAND. The future of WebRTC is the Human Contextual Moment: 1. Hyper-personalized – Human 2. Right for the place the recipient is in (both digital and real) - Context 3. Delivered in a transitory way – Moment WebRTC is simply a new HTML5 Application Programing Interface (API) that enables real-time communication. The net result of WebRTC is the ability to connect to another person in real-time using video, voice or text without plugins. WebRTC is a huge leap forward for the open web, building on a heritage of simpler applications (for example push-to-talk softphone applications and web chat for real-time text support) with a much richer, visual experience. WebRTC works with any compliant browser, most important the newest versions of common browsers which are increasingly being embedded into “IP endpoints” including smart TVs, interactive kiosks, desktop and laptop computers, tablets and smartphones. All these devices can now or soon will be able to communicate on a common platform, and people can initiate a WebRTC “session” easily with a click, touch or even voice command. I believe we are at the beginning of a new revolution in communications similar to the data revolution of the 1990s. Communications is becoming ubiquitous and the barriers of entry have fallen to a place where a standard web developer can create rich real time communications. How and what these applications will look like will be hard to predict give the exponential change we are experiencing, but this presentation shows some possible use cases.
