What is a carpenter?

 A person who makes and repairs wooden
  objects and structures.

 Carpenters work on everything
  wooden from houses to
  furniture, and all things in
  between.
Why do I want to be a
carpenter?
 I have also loved working and building with
wood and prefer hands on physical work as
apposed to theoretical work behind a desk.
Why do I want to be a
carpenter?
 I like constructing quality work and having it
being quality work that you can take pride in.

 I like the idea that when you do a project, the
finished project is a reflection of how much
  effort you put into it.
Education

 It is recommended you have a grade 11
education before you try out for an
  apprentice ship.
 There are also
  trades programs
  through collage
  courses.
Education

 Courses are offered at camousen collage,
where they recently received 28 million
dollars from the Canadian government to
improve there carpentry course as part of the
  Canada Economic Action Plan.

 There are also trades programs through
  collage courses.
Working conditions

 A carpenter will be expected to work at
outside and inside locations, hours can be
long and grueling on some projects.

 Worksites can be dangerous places, there is
always a high risk of accident; extra
  precautions are necessary.
Working conditions

 There is usually more work for carpenters in
  the summer season.

 When there are less contracts available,
carpenters may have there own work shops
where they make furniture or work on
  projects for clients, or self.
Employment

 Carpenters can work for companies, or for
small independent shops, but many of them
  are self employed.
Salary

 An experienced carpenter will usually make
between 44-79 thousand a year, but it very
much depends how experienced you are, you
client data base, the kind of projects you get,
and economic downturns can be a major
  problem.
Equipment

 Carpenters work with a variety of tools to get
  the job done.

 Many of a carpenters tools are electric
however in old fashion tradition a carpenter
has a large selection of manual tools.
Thanks!
