As a result of the success we’ve had helping clients plan their transition to the Cloud, Microsoft asked Net@Work to present three Office 365 Hands-on Labs to educate users that are unfamiliar with Office 365 about Microsoft’s Cloud services. Our first set of free training workshops were held last week at our New York office and by all accounts were highly welcomed by all. Here is a quick overview of what was covered.
Office 365 is a comprehensive set of online and offline tools based around familiar Office programs like Word, Excel & Outlook. Attendees were walked through online activities such as:
Starting and joining group video calls with Lync
Creating and editing Office documents via Web Apps
Sharing Office documents via SkyDrive
Microsoft provided an entire lab setup for our use, including Lenovo Yoga Convertible Tablets running Windows 8.1 and Jabra headsets for voice and video calls.

Experience how to effectively connect with co-workers while
managing personal and work-related calendars, email and
documents from anywhere with Windows Phone and Windows
apps.
Learn some of the new features in Windows Phone 8.
Narrative
Contoso’s Karen Berg, a Sales Account Manager, gets ready for
a typical busy day by catching up on work/personal calendars
and emails on her Windows Phone & tablet while riding the
bus to work.
Experience
Participants will IM with co-workers, manage personal and work
appointments, read and send emails, submit an expense receipt
and IT support ticket, and review documents stored in their
SharePoint mobile workspace, all from their Windows Phone.
Participants will become familiar with the new UI of Windows 8
(Fast and fluid experience with touch, pen, mouse & keyboard).

Experience how to successfully triage email, get helpful

Narrative
After docking her Windows tablet, Karen Berg continues
responding to emails, views her appointments and starts
communicating with her colleagues through Lync and Outlook.
Experience
Participants will manage email and appointments as well as set
up a Lync meeting.
Appreciate the simplified installation process for new Office &
see how the new Office runs side by side with older versions of
Office.
Participants will track metrics using Dynamics CRM.

Gather information and bring people together through a
variety of new social features.
Learn about Enterprise Social to facilitate collaboration and
communication among team members, including discussion
boards, enterprise newsfeeds, microblogs and the ability to
follow people and documents.
Narrative
As Karen takes on the added responsibilities from Cassie
Hicks, she starts to gather more information about Northwind
Traders by checking on the site mailbox and using the site’s
social features to her advantage to quickly get up to speed.
Experience
Participants will search for information on the Contoso Intranet
site, review discussions and newsfeed posts, and use the
eDiscovery Center to gather information.

Quickly analyze rich data sets to identify trends and
performance.
Learn how PowerView and BI tools make it easy to collect and
view data across the company.
Use Project Web tools to evaluate information to make critical
business decisions.
Narrative
Karen digs into her company’s repository of information using a
variety of tools at her disposal to make informed decisions
about renewing Northwind Traders’ contract.
Experience
Participants will post conversations, create tags, find
information in the eDiscovery Center, and use Project tools to
analyze data easily.
In the BI Supplement, participants will learn how to use external
data connections to allow more in-depth analysis of company
data when combined with external data sources.

Narrative
Karen has now completed her research with help from
Alan, Molly and Julian, and she is ready to work with her larger
team to update the Northwind contract to reflect her findings.
Experience
Participants will have the chance to co-author both a Word
document and a PowerPoint presentation as well as use Flash
Fill tools to easily modify an Excel worksheet.
