Speaker Notes:Earlier in the keynote presentation, we mentioned four megatrends that are radically changing enterprise IT as we know it. These trends are fundamentally changing the way that people work—creating new possibilities for improved productivity and efficiency while supporting a more flexible workstyle that better fits with today’s workers:Mobile. New mobile devices—from smartphones to tablets to ultraportable laptops—combined with increasingly prevalent Wi-Fi and cellular data access let your employees stay connected from virtually anywhere. By some estimates, more than a billion people will be using smartphones and tablets by 2016. Today’s workers are increasingly mobile and they need—and expect—to be able to choose the devices they will use and to have access from anywhere to the resources they need to do their jobs.Social. Social is similarly redefining the workplace. Social networking sites have redefined how people connect and share with each other (particularly the millennial generation, who have never known a time without their mobile phones and computers). Social is one of today’s technology megatrends. It really started in the consumer space—Facebook, Skype, Twitter, LinkedIn, YouTube, Pinterest, and so on. At home, many (even most!) of us use some form of consumer social computing application to connect with our friends, families, acquaintances, even strangers. For the millennial generation, these tools represent an essential way of interacting with each other and forming networks and communities. Are your people using Facebook as part of their work today? Has instant messaging (IM) overtaken email as their first choice for quick online connections? Do your employees share their business documents with each other on consumer file-sharing sites (or even just use these consumer sites so they can access their work from anywhere)? Are your customers interacting with your business through social sites, potentially researching your products and services or rating their experiences online? Have you deployed any internal social tools that take advantage of this trend and, if so, what has worked and what hasn’t? There is certainly some risk inherent in the consumer social tools, but that doesn’t discount the tremendous potential that “social” in general has to change the face of productivity in this new era. Microsoft believes that social is the way forward, and is focused on using technology to support a more social, collaborative workstyle, both in how employees connect with each other and also in how they engage with customers.Cloud. We’ve already touched on the cloud as a megatrend. How many of you are now using some form of cloud service in your business today? Have you considered the value of the cloud in enabling a more flexible workstyle? How are you managing the online/offline experience? What kind of value do you think the cloud will offer your IT professionals—have you considered or realized the benefits from a deployment and ongoing management perspective? Are your developers exploring the cloud as a new way to deliver apps internally? For customers? And possibly the number one thought on everyone’s mind today—what about security, privacy, and reliability? Microsoft’s approach is about enabling you to embrace the cloud on your terms to enable a more scalable, manageable app experience and simplify deployment for your IT professionals.Control. Last but not least, control is essential if you want to protect your critical intellectual property and minimize disruptions to your business. Speaker Notes:People want to use devices that reflect their unique needs and workstyles, and Microsoft is helping meet those needs today with devices based on Windows 8 and Windows Phone 8.Microsoft’s focus is on delivering consistent, highly secure experiences across devices. Windows 8 is designed for touch; supports a longer battery life; powers thinner, lighter, and faster devices; enables new form factors, from tablets to convertibles to ultra-portables, to all-in-ones; and takes advantage of new hardware innovations such as low-power Bluetooth, GPS, gyroscopes, and accelerometers as well as security hardware technologies such as Trusted Platform Module (TPM) and Unified Extensible Firmware Interface (UEFI) boot.Many of today’s devices are about mobility, so let’s quickly touch on what Microsoft is offering by way of mobile devices:We hear from business users today that they have to choose between convenience and productivity. Windows 8 heralds a new and broad range of lightweight, no-compromise business tablets (including both Microsoft Surface tablets and tablets from other original equipment manufacturers [OEMs]), providing both experiences that users love and enterprise-class security: Windows 8 x86 tablets deliver a touch-enabled experience along with full support for mouse and keyboard plus pen—users can have the convenience and mobility of a tablet along with the power and familiar experience of a full PC, and they can move effortlessly between work and personal activities. Also, with x86-based Windows 8 tablets, users get a connected experience with apps from the Windows Store, while they can also use all of the desktop line-of-business (LOB) and productivity apps that they use today with Windows 7. Windows RT tablets run on ARM, enabling thinner, lighter, and sleeker designs as well as a long battery life. These devices share code with Windows 8, so they can run apps from the Windows Store and are compatible with most peripherals. Plus, they are ready for business—they have Office preinstalled, they have built-in support for virtual private network (VPN) connections (for Microsoft, Cisco, CheckPoint, and Juniper servers), and they support multi-factor authentication (smartcard and virtual smartcard).Microsoft is also delivering a new range of delightful phones through the Windows Phone platform. This is the year for Windows Phone. The platform is growing quickly with an extension of partnerships that offer additional geographic coverage worldwide coupled with localization to support this expansion. Also, additional mobile operators are being added, and the apps marketplace has surpassed 110,000 apps and continues to growing rapidly.These enterprise-ready smartphones will complement the new devices powered by Windows 8. Windows Phone 8 isn't just a great phone for business. It's an extension of the Windows ecosystem and an integrated part of a Microsoft-wide mobile computing story. It's built on the same trusted core as Windows 8 and has a built-in Office Hub, which means that your employees will have a consistent productivity experience across device types. With Office on Demand, users can get to their Office apps from virtually any computer—they simply log in and the Office apps are streamed from the cloud and usable in as little as 30 seconds. The apps and documents are only available during the session, as no files are held in the local file cache. With SkyDrive Pro, documents and settings roam with users. SkyDrive Pro provides a highly secure, enterprise-grade alternative to consumer cloud storage services that is managed by your organization. The same concept of mobility extends to your business applications. For example, the new Microsoft Dynamics CRM Mobile service connects your mobile employees with Microsoft Dynamics CRM—for greater productivity on the road. The Microsoft Dynamics CRM Mobile service can bring your mobile workers closer to your customers for differentiated interactions that ultimately help create profitable customer relationships. Transition: The next area I’d like to discuss is about providing collaborative business solutions through social capabilities.

It periodically synchronizes with the management infrastructure to check for any updated LOB apps and apply the latest settings and policies configured by IT for the device. If the user or the administrator chooses to remove the device from the management infrastructure, it disables any LOB apps that the user installed.New cloud app model Finally, the new Office also introduces a new cloud app model to extend and personalize the way you create and consume information from within Office and SharePoint.
