• Betty Akumatey is an accomplished Anthropologist, Sociologist, Gender and Community Development
Practitioner and a Consultant with seventeen years professional experience as a Social Scientist and a
Lecturer in Social Anthropology, Culture and Development, Sociology of the Family, Gender Studies and
Research Methods at the Department of Sociology, University of Ghana.
• She has in-depth knowledge not only about socio-cultural systems, but also how humans and societies
respond to change. She has extensive experience in the use of qualitative research techniques and
participatory tools, and has been involved in large-scale multi-country research as well as training of field
assistants. She also has experience in monitoring research for Data Safety and management.
• Furthermore, Ms. Akumatey has practical skills in community mobilisation and social intervention and impact
assessment projects, in both rural and urban contexts. She is skilled in conducting baseline and feasibility
Studies and has successfully deployed this in various sectors including, the agricultural, urban infrastructure
upgrading, health and water and sanitation, among other sectors.
