Rector’s Speech
                  DEAR APPLICANT,

At the turn of millennia the question of the role
of science in securing the future arises acutely as
never before. The leading countries of the world,
taking care of their potential, contribute to the
development of education and training of
                       medical personnel physicians, pharmacists,
nurses, medical psychologists and others. The
Medical University which I have the honor to
head has trained tens of thousands of physicians
for Ukraine, closely and distantly situated
countries over the 60 years of its existence.
                       Powerful educational, material and technical
                       bases, scientific-pedagogical personnel,
renovated content of training, the introduction of
                       modern information technologies promote the
effective mastering of the profession and
molding of the personality of a future medical
Vasyl Pishak specialist. Well-organized leisure time of our
students is a pledge of high spirits and success.

                                           Theatralna Square in Chernivtsy

Being truly one of the jewels of Eastern Europe, Chernivtsy consists of enormous counts of
historical, architectural and cultural landmarks. The city was found almost 600 years ago and
it quickly became the centre of trade and commerce for the region. Chernivtsy achieved the
basic development in Austrian period, being the centre of the Bukovina province of Austro-
Hungarian Empire. Due to its geographical location and natural resources, the city was a
constant attraction for strangers – Tartars, Poles, Austrians, Hungarians, Russians, Jews, and
Germans. Throughout the ages, conquerors have introduced into the city their traditions,
cultures, religions and architecture – a mixture of gothic and baroque, renaissance and
Romanesque, empire, rococo and eclectic modern. Throughout its history, however, the living
traditions of Ukrainian national culture have always been prominent in Chernivtsy. 7

THE HIPPOCRATIC OATH
I swear by Apollo Physician and Asclepius and Hygieia and Panaceia and all the gods
and goddesses, making them my witnesses, that I will fulfill according to my ability and this
oath and this covenant.
To hold him, who has taught me this art as equal to my parents and to live my life in
partnership with him, and if he is in need of money to give him a share of mine, and to regard
his offspring as equal to my brothers in male lineage and to teach them this art if they desire
to learn it without fee and covenant: to give a share of precepts and oral instruction and all
the other learning to my sons and to the sons of him who has instructed me and to pupils
who have signed the covenant and have taken an oath according to the medical law, but to
no one else.
I will apply dietetic measures for the benefit of the sick according to my ability and
judgment: I will keep them from harm and injustice.
I will neither give a deadly drug to anybody if asked for it, not will I make a suggestion
to this effect. Similarly I will not give to a woman an abortive remedy. In parity and holiness I
will guard my life and my art. I will not use the knife, not even on sufferers from stone, but
will withdraw in favor of such men as are engaged in this work.
Whatever houses I may visit, I will come for the benefit of the sick, remaining free of all
intentional injustice of all mischief and in particular of sexual relations with both female and
male persons, be they free or slaves.
What I may see or hear in the course of the treatment or even outside of the treatment
in regard to the life of men, which on no account one must spread abroad, I will keep to
myself holding such things shameful to be spoken about. If I fulfill this oath and do not violate
it, may it be granted to me to enjoy life and art, being honored with fame among all men for
all time to come: if I transgress it and swear falsely may the opposite of all this be my lot.
                                                                                                     13

What Our Student Says…..
I don’t know to say this… but really, rather than
compromising with any average medical university or any
paramedical course, it's much-much better to study at a
                   top university like BSMU.
                                                   -Dhwani Shah(Ahemdabad)

There is no second opinion that BSMU is a very good and perfect University to
study medical Education. The highly skilled and always ready to help faculty
member, fully equipped laboratories. libraries and other infra, friendly and
welcoming seniors and a peaceful atmosphere of city.
                                                        -Nimay Hazare(Baroda)

As BSMU is a government own university, the state government has done a
very heavy investment in infrastructure and maintaining a very well qualified
staff. But at the same time the cost of studying here is much subsidized and is
nothing in compare to the benefits, we as students get here. I have decided to
continue my further education for PG from here only, on completion of my
                  M.B.B.S.

  • 13. THE HIPPOCRATIC OATH I swear by Apollo Physician and Asclepius and Hygieia and Panaceia and all the gods and goddesses, making them my witnesses, that I will fulfill according to my ability and this oath and this covenant. To hold him, who has taught me this art as equal to my parents and to live my life in partnership with him, and if he is in need of money to give him a share of mine, and to regard his offspring as equal to my brothers in male lineage and to teach them this art if they desire to learn it without fee and covenant: to give a share of precepts and oral instruction and all the other learning to my sons and to the sons of him who has instructed me and to pupils who have signed the covenant and have taken an oath according to the medical law, but to no one else. I will apply dietetic measures for the benefit of the sick according to my ability and judgment: I will keep them from harm and injustice. I will neither give a deadly drug to anybody if asked for it, not will I make a suggestion to this effect. Similarly I will not give to a woman an abortive remedy. In parity and holiness I will guard my life and my art. I will not use the knife, not even on sufferers from stone, but will withdraw in favor of such men as are engaged in this work. Whatever houses I may visit, I will come for the benefit of the sick, remaining free of all intentional injustice of all mischief and in particular of sexual relations with both female and male persons, be they free or slaves. What I may see or hear in the course of the treatment or even outside of the treatment in regard to the life of men, which on no account one must spread abroad, I will keep to myself holding such things shameful to be spoken about. If I fulfill this oath and do not violate it, may it be granted to me to enjoy life and art, being honored with fame among all men for all time to come: if I transgress it and swear falsely may the opposite of all this be my lot. 13 www.thebsmu.com Copyright 2010-11

The highly skilled and always ready to help faculty member, fully equipped laboratories. libraries and other infra, friendly and welcoming seniors and a peaceful atmosphere of city. -Nimay Hazare(Baroda) As BSMU is a government own university, the state government has done a very heavy investment in infrastructure and maintaining a very well qualified staff. But at the same time the cost of studying here is much subsidized and is nothing in compare to the benefits, we as students get here.
