This document provides an overview of retail in India. It defines organized and unorganized retail, with organized retail referring to licensed large corporate retailers and chains, and unorganized retail as traditional small local shops. It notes that while India's $353 billion retail sector contributes greatly to GDP and employment, only about 8% is organized. However, organized retail is growing quickly at a 40% CAGR and may reach $107 billion by 2013. It also profiles Pantaloons, one of India's largest retailers, with over 15 million square feet of retail space and 14,000 employees.
