1. What is the date of the federal election? ____May 2nd____

3. Based on what you have learned the last 2 classes, where do you think
you fall on the political and economic spectrum (right or left?) Why do you
think this – what ideas make the most sense?
I think I may be leaning towards the conservatives. My reasons are:
• I believe in independence, accepting the consequences of your own
actions
• I believe in letting someone decide their own destiny, rewarding the
hard-workers.
• It sounds selfish, but I don’t like the idea of my tax money paying for
slackers. Yes, support each other, but don’t let people take advantage
of one another.
2. 4. Complete the Vote Compass survey on the CBC website to find out
its recommendation for which party platform you most support
(according to their question set).
Paste 2 screenshots below of your position on the economic and political
spectrum.
a. Your overall left vs. right position.
b. Choose 3 issues to set as “important” and recalculate your position.
3. 5. Go to the Globe and Mail’s website and read through Party Platforms
highlights on 10 key issues for Canadians.
a. If you were able to vote in this election which party would you vote
for and why? You must, make reference to 3 key issues written
about in the Globe and the component of your party’s platform you
most agree with. Explanations of why these ideas appeal and make
sense to you must be included.
There are three specific things I like especially that the
Conservatives have under their platform.
o They will double the amount Canadians can save in their
tax free saving accounts,
People would be more willing to put more money into
the bank, and in some cases this will discourage
some big spending. I don’t know much about banking,
but it seems to me that this could stabilize the
economy a little more.
o Double children’s fitness tax credit to making $1000
available for registration fees for kid’s sports,
This will encourage families to encourage kids into
sports, increasing social interaction between kids and
decreasing child obesity and, in the long run, adult
obesity as well.
o Administer drug tests to federal prisoners every year and
not allow parole to inmates who fail these tests
This may keep dangerous convicts off the streets and
make drug trafficking more difficult.
