This document describes how to gamify instruction using the Wondershare Quiz Creator tool by creating a game called "A Plastic-Free TNHS". Key steps included inserting a background image of the school, scattering plastic bottle images throughout, setting clickable hotspots to find the bottles, adding audio, setting quiz properties and feedback, and publishing the finished game. The goal was to raise awareness of plastic waste and support the school's Zero Waste program.
1. Gamified Instruction
Gamifying an Instruction Using Wondershare Quiz Creator
Ann Michelle S. Medina
ICT Coordinator, Tagumpay National High School
27 October 2019
2. I was privileged to attend the
OER Cluster 1 (Basic OER)
Training last May 2019 at
ACE Hotel. The Open
Educational Resources
(OER) is a banner program
of the Department of
Education (DepEd) under the
Digital Rise Philippines
Program. The training was
spearheaded by Sir Mark
Anthony C. Sy. The OER
training enabled us to
manipulate the Wondershare
Quiz Creator tool.
3. From what I learned from the OER training; I created a
gamified instruction, titled “A Plastic-Free TNHS” using
Wondershare Quiz Creator tool. The content was anchored in
Tagumpay National High School’s (TNHS) Zero Waste
Program. The game also aims to support Sustainable
Development Goal (SDG)12 or the Responsible Consumption
and Production and SDG 13 Climate Action.

4. BIODEGRADABLE
NON-BIODEGRADABLE
We don’t have trash cans in our
school. So, the TNHS community
is oriented to manage their own
wastes by using the green and red
eco-bags. This move was initiated
by Dr. Maria Cristina S.
Marasigan, the school principal.
To support the Zero Waste
advocacy, I thought of
concentrating the game on plastic
wastes so as to raise awareness
to our students about the ill effect
of plastics to our environment
(SDG 12 and 13).
5. The idea to create a game
came to me while playing
Popcap’s Mystery P.I.
game. In order to solve
the puzzle, this game has
a collection of items that
one needs to find in a
cluttered room. The game
is quite difficult but
challenging because it
requires patience to find
all required items.
6. Here’s my secret on
background selection.
Aside from being the
school’s ICT Coordinator, I
was also designated as a
School-Based
Management (SBM)
Coordinator in SY 2016-
2017. So, I used to take
pictures on school
improvement. From my
picture collections, I found
this picture of our study
area to suit the
background that I need.
7. My aim is to let the plastic bottles
naturally blend with the
surrounding. So, I downloaded
Portable Network Graphics
(PNG) type of images under a
Creative Common license.
Meaning, I can use images with
transparent background so I
could scatter them anywhere
without overlaying anything. To
make it as natural as possible, I
chose objects which could be
literally found (or lost) in the
school ground.
8. Using Microsoft PowerPoint, I
inserted the background and
scattered the downloaded
objects purposively. This was
done to challenge the ability
of the end user to find the
nine (9) plastic bottles. Have
you found the 9 items?
9. To change the color of
the plastic bottles, I
thought of applying
the “camouflage”
effect by hiding the
plastic bottles. You
can change the color
of the bottles in the
FORMAT tab. You can
select the color based
from the surrounding,
you may also use the
Eyedropper tool to
pick a specific color.
10. Once you’re done,
save the slide as
JPEG File
Interchange Format.
This file type is what
we need in our Click
Map activity.
11. What’s so exciting about
Wondershare Quiz Creator is its
“Click Map” function. I made use
of this feature because the
primary purpose of the game is to
identify/find similar objects.
12. To personalize the game, I
set the Quiz Properties by
clicking the encircled
button. A new window will
pop-out asking you to fill
several information like
the Quiz Title, the game
description, etc.
13. Under the same window, I
clicked the “Edit
Information” button to
supply my personal
details as the author of
the game.
14. What’s good with
Wondershare Quiz
Creator is its capability to
incorporate audio. You
can (1) add a pre-
recorded mp3 type of
audio, (2) record your
voice using the red button
and finally (3) you can
employ the system’s voice
to read the game
instruction for you. I chose
to have a pre-recorded
audio recording of my
daughter’s voice instead
of mine.

15. Under the Quiz Settings (it is the
button under the Quiz Information
field), I set the passing rate at 100%
because the instruction requires to
find all (9) empty plastic bottles. I
also enable time limit. I also set the
radio button to “submit all at once”,
meaning the end user should find all.
I also enable the “show the correct
answers after submission” and promt
to resume the quiz should the user
want to repeat the same game.
16. For the quiz results (or
feedback) I used both picture
and word to indicate learner’s
status. You can opt to put your
picture depicting different
emotions. One for sad and
another for happy. In distance
learning this indicates
teacher’s social presence. You
can also add audio if you wish
to increase the motivation.
Awesome! Thank you for making TNHS plastic free!
I'm sorry but you didn't make it!
17. You can follow the settings on
this page. Then press OK to
continue.
18. Double click the “Click Map”
feature to lead you to this
window. Enter your instruction
(quiz directions). Again, you
may opt insert an audio.
20. Identify all the hotspots (plastic
bottles) by using the
“rectangle” tool. In this case, I
set the hotspots into 9.
Feedback should correspond
to the number of identified
hotspots.
22. I only have one (1)
instruction but the full
score should be 9 because
of the plastic bottles. The
user must find all bottles to
satisfy the 100% passing
rate with a time limit of 1
minute and 20 seconds.
23. The game you set should
give you a progress bar
with 9 indicators.
24. As the end user (player)
progresses in the game,
the progress bar indicates
the number of identified
bottles. In this scenario,
there are two (2) bottles.
25. If the end user (player) is
successful in finding all
bottles, the game you set
must provides a feedback
similar to this.
27. You have to publish your
game to finalize. Simply
click the “Publish” button.
Then, in the “Publish”
window click the “CD/EXE”
option.
28. We’re almost done, if you
forgot to give a title to your
quiz, you can also set it
here. Then you may
choose a folder to store or
save your game. Then
click “Publish” button
29. If you successfully
published your content.
You will be greeted with a
“congratulations” window.
Choose “Open Folder”
button to see your file.
