Key Employability Roles
Hands on Experience
With the crane industry being one of the highest riskin construction, I take my skilldevelopment very
seriously. Being a carpenter by trade gives me a sound knowledge of generalconstruction to base my
career in the crane industry.
Starting as a trainee dogman in a crane yard (UniversalCranes Pty Ltd) I was taught the values of starting
from the bottom and progressively learning the skills and qualifications that I have acquired.Learning
from the ground as a dogman and then when competent progressing to a basic rigger, then intermediate
rigger provided the necessary knowledge of what happens on the hook end of crane operations. It also
gave me priceless knowledge of client relations, the importance ofcrane positioning, duel/multi crane
lifts, leadership skills and vitaldecision makingto complete the job safely without compromising
efficiency.
Progressingto crane operation after an apprenticeship style of training outside the cab has given me
vision to perceive the job from both inside and outside the crane cab. With experience in operating
mobile slew cranes, crawler cranes, rough terrain cranes and franna cranes I bring a detailed knowledge
of many crane computer systems, operationalcontrols and hands on experience in the seat ofa vast
array of crane makes and models.
2. General/Taxi Hire
The experience gained through working in the generalhire field of cranage is second to none. Learning
the key skills involved in this criticalindustry through this field set a rock solid foundation for me to build
my skillset. Heads up thinking and a constant awareness ofallsurrounding conditions is a must with the
situations that you are faced with on a daily basis.Liaising with clients and assessingeach situation to
effectively and safely to complete tasks as wellas representingthe company in the most positive light is
second nature.Operatingcrawler cranes, slewingmobile cranes and franna cranes as wellas rigging in
this field has built a vast knowledge ofmany different crane operatingsystems as wellas an “outside the
box” mindset to completing challengingtasks.
Project and Large Scale Construction
Excelling in the field of Cranage has seen my involvement in some large scale projects for high profile
clients. These projects come across a variety of different fields from mining, construction, LNG pipeline
projects rightthrough to civilconstruction. The below projects are just a few of manykey roles tailoring
my unique skills in theindustry:
Chevron, Bechtel – WLNG – Wheatstone LNG Project
Thiess, John Holland JV, Airport Link
Acciona Infrastructures, BMD Constructions, Ghella - Transcity JV Legacy Way Project
Rio Tinto Clermont Coal, Second Truck Dump Hopper Project (2TDH)
Glencore/Mount Isa Mines, George Fisher Mine Expansion Project
Oil Refineries
A conscious attitude towards a "Safety First" culture is a non-negotiable when working within the
confines ofAustralia's leadingrefineries.
Being part ofa company elected to be the primary supplier ofcrane hire undertaking regular maintenance
and also shutdown work at both Caltex Refinery (Lytton) and BP Refinery (Pinkenba) gave me invaluable
experience.
With production driven operations correlating with extremely strict safetypolicies, refinery worktaught
me key skills in safe yet efficient work practices.
