Design Principles for AppStream 2.0:
Users access apps using a browser on any networked device, anywhere
Instant-on experience
Scale on-demand
Fully Managed (via APIs or Console)
Firewall friendly – must work in enterprise IT
Trial/Demo: Enterprises and software vendors will trial or demo applications to their end-users using AppStream 2.0, and bypass requirements for installing these applications on end-user devices. These trials/demos will be used to evaluate applications in the case of enterprises, or help with customer acquisition for software vendors.
Workshops/e-learning: Enterprises and software vendors will conduct training for their employees and customers on new or updated applications using AppStream 2.0. End-users will not need to visit a computer lab, or download and install the applications on a device. Instead, end-users can use any device to remotely connect to a training environment in the cloud that has the training applications ready to use.
Business Computing: Enterprises will deliver line of business applications to their end-users using AppStream 2.0. End-users who typically use web apps for all their business tasks will have access to desktop apps on-demand via their browser. Also, end-users who need occasional access to expensive or difficult to install/manage apps can also use AppStream 2.0 to access these apps on-demand via the browser in a simple, inexpensive way.
Technical Computing: Enterprises and software vendors will take advantage of AppStream 2.0 to move technical computing workloads to AWS. Engineers who use AWS for design and simulations, can use applications streamed by AppStream 2.0 to visualize and analyze their data while it is stored at AWS. For example, engineers will use AppStream 2.0 to access 3D/CAD apps and load their data directly into these applications from storage on AWS (S3, EBS, or EFS).
