Dear sir/madam
Reference Ms Amanda Brinkman
It is my pleasure to write this letter of support for Ms Amanda Brinkman. I got to know her over
the past three years in her role as Special Adviser to: Minister of Health & Leader of Government
Business: Western Cape Government.
As a group we have had a number of interactions with her and all of us have been immeasurably
impressed by her attitude and enthusiasm for her role as ambassador for the Western Cape
government. In our interactions over the years, I have come to know Amanda as an extra-
ordinary woman who is professional, dedicated, passionate and extremely hard-working.
I first met Amanda early in 2010 when we approached the Western Cape Department of Health
with a proposal for the establishment of a PPI in the Eden district with respect to the treatment
of cancer patients. Since then through 2012, Amanda has been an instrumental party to the
success of establishing a pilot project in 2011 which was recently extended for another two-year
period.
As part of the process to move from a concept discussed in face-to-face meetings to a more
formal proposal to that could be considered by the WC Department of Health, it often was
necessary to bounce ideas off Amanda to get her point of view. She always found the time to
comment on draft documentation, replying to email requests and often made excellent
innovative suggestions to improve or augment our thinking.
Amanda is passionate about patient care in general and towards the well-being of the population
of the Western Cape in particular. This was evident in the energetic and positive way she
participated in a brainstorming discussion about reaching the cancer community in smaller
towns outside of Cape Town by offering chemotherapy services through a mobile clinic initiative.
I have experienced Amanda as great problem-solver and her ability to connect appropriate
parties to each other to allow a project to move forward is highly commendable.
Yours sincerely
