Influences for our Trailer
(After the Animatic)
After watching our Animatic back and getting feedback, we
realised that we needed to include scarier shots into our
horror trailer to inject fear into the audience. Therefore, we
started watching current horror trailers to see what shots
and techniques they were using to create fear. We were
inspired by the trailer ‘Deliver Us From Evil’, there are some
shots that we hope to adapt into our trailer as we feel they
are extremely effective. Here is the link for the trailer:

Deliver Us From Evil
Scratching the floor
We found these shots very
disturbing, as it is unnatural for a
person to digging the floor like an
animal, in a crazed-like state. There
are close ups of the woman’s hands
and medium wide shots of the
woman’s body to show in detail
what this woman is doing. There are
fast cuts to reflect the frenzied state
this woman is in. One of the targets
we wanted to improve on was the
representation of the Mother’s
character whilst she is possessed.
Therefore, a shot reflecting that she
is acting out of character, such as
this, would create an uncomfortable
atmosphere for the audience.
Being Grabbed
The suspense of these shots add to the overall
horror genre. The audience know that
something is going to happen and therefore
start to feel more uncomfortable and feel on
edge. When the man jumps on the back of the
main character, it frightens the audience and
creates a moment of panic on screen. This
atmosphere transfers through the screen and
into the mind of the audience. We wanted
there to be a sequence of shots to show that
the Father in our trailer cared about his little
boy, and therefore we feel we could
incorporate a shot like this into our trailer
with the Mother jumping on the Father’s back
whilst she is possessed.
Teddy Moving
In our trailer we are including a child’s teddy bear to represent the evil spirit that
the Mother get’s possessed by. After watching this shot of an owl teddy moving
across the floor, we thought we could try to re-create this in our trailer. It would
be a challenging but spine chilling, as it is extremely unusual and brings a person
out of their comfort zone seeing an inanimate object moving by itself. In our
trailer it would make the audience fear for the whole family, especially the young
boy.
