that yields the highest system availability rate, at the lowest maintenance cost, while not compromising safety.
There are a number of approaches to system maintenance:
Failure Diagnostics – which is performed AFTER a failure occurs
Failure Prognostics – which is performed BEFORE a failure occurs
Prognostics provides for detection of failures before failures occur by means of calculating RUL (Remaining Useful Life).
