Both the spelling and the definition of barbecue (smoking, open fire, pit,
propane) can polarize people. One thing everyone can agree on… grilling
beats all for summer cooking!
• 95% of cooks plan to grill this summer, with nearly 40% of women and more than 42% of men planning to
grill between three and seven days a week.
• Barbecuing is among the top three favorite summer activities (spending time with friends and family 73%,
being outdoors 63%, barbecuing 62%).
• The taste of grilled food, ease of clean-up and healthy cooking alternatives are cited most frequently as the
best things about grilling.
• Chicken, corn on the cob, hamburgers, grilled vegetables and steak are the top five foods to eat during the
summer…all grill friendly!
• Men’s favorite food to grill is steak (80%) while women’s is chicken (73%).
• Top dog? Most popular hot dog topping for women is ketchup, while men choose mustard.
• Burger Master? Most popular burger topping for women is lettuce, while men choose onions.
