3. CAREERS Based on your tweets, only a few of you are considering careers in web design. That’s okay, of course. The idea of the class isn’t to transform you into web designers. But because only a few of you are interested in the field as a career, I don’t want to devote another entire class period to talking about jobs. So… If you have specific questions about the readings, or about job prospects, let’s talk now. Please take this chance to get the information that you want/need.
4. MOD 6 I am extremely torn on module 6. I wanted you to all get the experience of playing with specific code, but I know that some of you are having some trouble transitioning to utilizing that Tumblr code. I apologize if the structure of the module make it overly stressful– I didn’t mean for you to start working with the Tumblr code from the beginning. I wanted you to read some of it to get a sense of what it COULD do. So I’m revising the assignment. I’ll attach this revision as a PDF to the post with the PowerPoint for today.
5. MOD 6 The new first due date is going to be next Tuesday, the 19th. Here’s what I want from you that day: A visually complete mock-up A one page written document that explains the functionality of the mock-up (links, animation, media, etc.) If you have started a Tumblr specific design, you can still turn that in for this assignment. If you haven’t, I would like you to make the mock-up a “content” page for your final project site (meaning not the home page).
6. MOD 6 We will then have a second due date wherein I will ask you to make your Tumblr for class (the one you post to) match up to the site you are creating for your final project. And we will talk in class about how to do this. This means that Module 6– as a modification of your blog– will be due at the very end of class. For those of you who had quite a bit done already, we will find a way to make that work. Just talk to me. For those of you who were having trouble starting, hopefully these changes will help you to execute the assignment.
28. THE REMAINING DAYS We have come to the point in the semester where the class almost goes “studio.” I have planned the remaining days to allow for the maximum amount of work time (and it should also be question/answer time). Here’s an overview of each of our remaining days. One thing you should keep in mind– this would be a FANTASTIC time to make a schedule for your project. Don’t leave a webpage until the end like you might a paper. It’ll bite you. Trust me. Also, I will be making myself available during some lab hours in these last few weeks. I need to double check open times, but probably Fridays from noon-3 or so.
29. APRIL 14th (next class) I’m going to use your Twitter responses today to develop between 2 and 4 mini-lectures for next class. The rest of the meeting time will be devoted to you working and talking to me about what you’re working on.
30. APRIL 19th I am receiving an award (thank you for the applause! ), so we will not meet. In the place of meeting, I want you to do the following things: WORK WORKWORK! The lab will be open if you need it. I want you to post a specific Tumblr, during our class time (well, by Wednesday at noon), describing one thing you’re trying to do with your page that you cannot figure out how to do. Be specific and descriptive.
31. APRIL 21st On the 21st, we will start class with me addressing all the things you Tumblrd about the meeting before– so depending on the overlaps and whatnot, this could take a while. The rest of class will be work time. Please come in with questions!
32. APRIL 26th We will do all that “end of class stuff”– evals, my eval, etc. We will also do a sort of “usability 1.5” test wherein you will develop the questions and methods for your actual usability test 2.
33. APRIL 28th This will be “closing time,” class-wise. We’ll handle any final questions or concerns, do some in-class work, shake hands, etc.
34. May 5th Our “final exam” is May 5th. We aren’t having an exam, but that is when all your work is due. I will be on campus for the final exam period, in my office. I will also be online. Make sure if you need to find me, you do. No work will be accepted AT ALL after May 5th at 10 am unless we’ve talked beforehand. Grades for the class should be finalized and posted to the web by the 8th, and you should get comments from me roughly that same day or the next.
35. HOMEWORK Keep working. That’s all. Just keep working. Be productive. Your Twitter Question: What’s something you assume is a quick lesson but that you have tried, or looked at tutorials about, and just can’t quite pull off? Links would be handy.
