Motorbike Parting Introduction

In this exercise, the parting surfaces of the motorbike part will be created and the core, cavity and sliders will be
exported.

CimatronE 8.5 Motorbike Parting 1
Analyze

Parting Setup
Invoke the Parting Setup wizard, select the Master Motorcycle.elt part document (located in the Tutorial
Work FilesData To Steel directory).

    Set the following options:

2 Motorbike Parting CimatronE 8.5
Click the Preferences Editor icon and view the Part/Color/Quick_Split preferences.

The color of Quick Split sets can now be defined.

CimatronE 8.5 Motorbike Parting 3
Within the Preferences Editor, select Modeling/General/Quick Split Quality and verify that
'Recommended' is selected.

Click OK in the Preferences Editor and in the Parting Setup Wizard.

Split
Select the Parting / QuickSplit function from the Guide .

4 Motorbike Parting CimatronE 8.5
Change the arrows direction to Along Y, add vertical faces to bottom and click OK.

The following steps are redundant when using the 'High Quality' option in the Quick Split Quality preferences.
However, in this exercise the steps below are introduced to illustrate how to deal with a normal, which is pointing
in the wrong direction.

     Click the Object Direction icon.

Notice the black faces on EACH side.

CimatronE 8.5 Motorbike Parting 5
Toggle the Auto option to Manual.

The Manual option lets you manually pick each object and flip its normal. It is useful in cases where the body
includes several lumps as it allows each lump to be flipped individually.

Pick the five black faces to invert their normals i.e. they appear white, and click OK.

6 Motorbike Parting CimatronE 8.5
Check for Draft Angles.

Notice that the same faces are shown in red as undercuts.

These faces were assigned to the RED set since their face normals were inverted.

CimatronE 8.5 Motorbike Parting 7
Enter the QuickSplit function. Attach the marked faces to the BLUE set.

Pick the required faces and Middle Mouse Click on a blue face.

From the QuickSplit function, press the Draft Angle analysis icon. No undercuts are detected.

8 Motorbike Parting CimatronE 8.5

Create a Natural - Multi Continuous Extension, using the Manual Directions option.

The Auto Directions parameter displays all arrows on the vertices and their corresponding default directions
are calculated. The direction of the arrows can be set by right-clicking on the arrow. .One or more arrows can be
removed so that their default direction at this point will not be calculated.

The Manual Directions parameter displays only two arrows at the end vertices of each face. Side directions of
extensions on each vertex can be added.

26 Motorbike Parting CimatronE 8.5

Sweep this curve by a delta of 500.

The newly created face will now be cut with the intersecting faces. The Faces/Trim function is normally used in
this procedure, however here the Merge function will be used as it enables the procedures completion in a single
operation.

    Stitch the following faces:

CimatronE 8.5 Motorbike Parting 33

Hide the following sets and Parting Surfaces: When creating a composite curve on a split part, selection of the curves is made easier by displaying the relevant faces only. CimatronE 8.5 Motorbike Parting 13
  • 18. Create the following composite curve: Select the Sweep Face icon from the Parting Guide, under Parting Surf. 14 Motorbike Parting CimatronE 8.5
  • 19. Pick the composite curve created, and change the direction to Along X (pointing outwards). Show the Split-03 direction. Create the composite curve shown here and sweep a face in the -Z direction. CimatronE 8.5 Motorbike Parting 15
  • 20. Open the sketcher. As the sketch plane pick the face indicated below: Rotate to plane and draw a line slanted at 1.5 degrees from the vertical direction. Use reference points indicated by the arrows. 16 Motorbike Parting CimatronE 8.5
  • 21. Sweep this line in the X direction to Both Sides. Extend Select Solid/Merge. Pick the two faces highlighted below: Notice the arrow directions. CimatronE 8.5 Motorbike Parting 17
  • 22. Click OK. The slider will now be closed. Select the Blend Face icon and create the Blend face below: 18 Motorbike Parting CimatronE 8.5
  • 23. Pick the boundary shown here. Extend the face as shown below: The following step is to stitch the faces, in order to create a round. This means that the open edges will be "lost". Therefore, before the stitch operation, the face shown here will be extended, using its smooth open edge. Select the Extend Face icon. CimatronE 8.5 Motorbike Parting 19
  • 24. Pick the edge highlighted and create a Tangent Continuous extension. Select Faces/Stitch and stitch the faces into a single object. 20 Motorbike Parting CimatronE 8.5
  • 25. Create the following round: Inner area Close the inner area below, by a Bounded Face. Click here to see the curve selected. CimatronE 8.5 Motorbike Parting 21
  • 26. Create the Blend Face by picking the two edges as shown: 22 Motorbike Parting CimatronE 8.5
  • 27. Close the area by an additional Blend Face (with boundaries). Create a composite curve and extend the edges shown below, using the Tangent Continuous option. CimatronE 8.5 Motorbike Parting 23
  • 28. Side area Extend the edge shown here using the Natural Continuous option. Create the composite curve. 24 Motorbike Parting CimatronE 8.5
  • 29. Click the Drive Face icon and create a Drive Face. Below the drive face, create the following extend face: CimatronE 8.5 Motorbike Parting 25
  • 30. Create the composite curve shown below: Create a Natural - Multi Continuous Extension, using the Manual Directions option. The Auto Directions parameter displays all arrows on the vertices and their corresponding default directions are calculated. The direction of the arrows can be set by right-clicking on the arrow. .One or more arrows can be removed so that their default direction at this point will not be calculated. The Manual Directions parameter displays only two arrows at the end vertices of each face. Side directions of extensions on each vertex can be added. 26 Motorbike Parting CimatronE 8.5
  • 31. Create the Composite Curve shown here. Select Faces/Modify/Boundary. Pick the face as shown below, using the Keep Original option. CimatronE 8.5 Motorbike Parting 27
