I. Introduction
On 19-21 December 2014, the Monrovia Christian Fellowship (MCF) Youth and Young Adults
Ministry (YYAM) held its Youth Awakening Worship Conference in collaboration with MCF
church leadership, youth groups from over 13 churches, and various sponsors in Monrovia.
The Youth Awakening Worship Conference which aimed at awakening young people to the
move of God in this generation; created a godly environment with over 400 persons attending
during the three days of the conference. This conference unveiled the need to reach young people
throughout Liberia with the Word of God, beginning with Monrovia as the starting point of such
a great endeavor. All of the activities including the NBQ tournament, live worship, drama, live
dance, motivational speaking and comedy by a merger of young people, in some way served as
means to influence our generation to live godly fulfilled lives.
At the conference which lasted for exactly three days, the National Bible Quizzing (NBQ) was
officially launched with eight churches participating. The NBQ program which is intended to
help establish young people in their faith through the systematic study, application, and
memorization of the Word of God proved to be an efficient fun way to study God’s Word as the
competition was an excellent motivation for the teams involved as well as the audience, who
demonstrated a desire and support for such an initiative.

II. Background
The Youth and Young Adult Ministry (YYAM) of MCF conducted a three day Youth
Awakening Worship Conference in Monrovia at the Monrovia Christian Fellowship, wherein the
National Bible Quizzing program was launched.
In accordance with its vision for the conference, the YYAM of MCF provided an entirely first of
its kind atmosphere where young people as well as parents from various churches and
denominations were motivated into being a part of what God is doing in our generation. It can be
said that the objectives of this conference which are to ensure (a) young people will awaken to
the move of God in this generation; (b) will study and know the word of God; (c) arise to a live
of leadership and godly fulfillment and (d) reach our generation with the gospel of Jesus, were
achieved with more work to be done ahead of the next conference so as to reach many if not all
of the churches in Montserrado with this vision.
Young People for so long have been regarded as the hooligans of our nation especially when
comparing to them to previous generations. In some small way this analogy has proven right.
However, during this conference it is was observed that if time and God led programs are
allotted to reach young people where they are, God will do the impossible by shaping this
generation into one that our country needs to uphold not only the kingdom of God, but also the
destiny of our nation.
Our Conference staff comprised of young people from about 13 churches who showed
commitment and passion for God’s business. Churches invited were encouraged to not only
attend the conference but to also be a part of the planning and implementation processes for as
long as over three weeks prior to the conference. During pre-conference meetings from 1-18
December, youth groups from about 13 churches regularly met at the Monrovia Christian
Fellowship to plan, practice, pray, and fellowship. As a result of such interaction, young people
from these churches were able to make valuable contributions to various aspects of the
conference.
Entrance to the conference was absolutely free with refreshment during the first and last day of
the conference provided for every one attending at no charge. It should be noted that Ebola
safety measures were put in place at entrance and exit at conference venue during the three days
of the conference.

Conference Day one
The overall state of affairs was peaceful and glorious.
On 19 December 2014 at 5:00pm, the Youth Awakening Worship Conference commenced
with high anxiety level from the audience who showed up 30 minutes earlier to the
conference start time. This anxiety and expectation of the audience was equally met with
fantastic Day one events which included Comedy, Welcome remarks, Introduction of the
program. Also, Prayer for the conference objectives, and live Worship was done by the
conference prayer and worship teams, comprising of various churches. Following a time of
live worship, the conference overview was read, and two young speakers delivered the
message of the night. This was subsequently followed by game one of the quizzing fixture;
Monrovia Christian Fellowship (MCF) vs. Mt. Sanai United Methodist Church (UMC) which
saw MCF as victor. A dance by the MCF youth Dance team was briefly enjoyed by the
audience as game two of night was underway. The second game ended with Assembly of
God Mission (AGM) emerging as winners over Bethel Cathedral of Hope.
The judges and score keepers on the night were randomly selected from other churches that
were not partaking in the games. This was so because invited judges were not available at the
time of the conference. Excluding few minor anticipated tussles, the entire day was a success.
After benediction the audience was ushered into the court yard of MCF for breaking of bread
in fries rice, chicken, barbeque and juice.

Conference Day Two
The overall state of affairs was peaceful and glorious.
On 20 December 2014 at 5:00pm, day two of the Conference commenced with higher
enthusiasm and larger turnout than the previous day in spite of the elections. The activities of
day two started similar to that of day one. Several challenges were given to the audience with
Youth CEV Bibles presented as rewards to those who passed the challenges. Also, Bibles
were given out to members in the audience who showed up early on day one of the
conference. This was followed by Welcome remarks, Introduction of the program, Prayer
and Worship, , and a speaker, all done by the conference team members comprising of youth
from various churches. This was subsequently followed by game one of match day two of the
quizzing fixture; Victory Christian Assembly (VCA) vs. St. Nagbe UMC which saw VCA as
victor. With no delay the second game started with Love Center International emerging as
winners over Calvary Baptist.
Lastly, on the night, MCF won AGM, while VCA won Love Center Int’l to book a place in
the finals.
The judges and score keepers on the night were again selected as day one. The night was
overall successful. After benediction the audience was ushered out of the sanctuary with no
refreshment due to financial constraints.

Conference Day Three
On 21 December 2014 at 5:00pm, the Conference commenced with very high enthusiasm
and the turnout was earlier as the two previous days, with the largest turn out of the
conference. The activities of day two started with comedy by Love center International, and
MCF. This was followed by Welcome remarks, Introduction of the program, Prayer,
Worship, and three awesome speakers including youth from various churches. After this, the
vision statement for the Youth Awakening Worship Conference and the National Bible
quizzing which was read out and the final match of the NBQ got under. Unlike previous
matches this game was emotional with two of the best teams going head to head. Shortly
before the end of round one, MCF led by 20 points with an advantage of having the captain
of VCA team leave the game after he had attempted five questions as part of the regulations
given from the beginning of the competition. This however, was not the case as the player
resisted automatic replacement which saw church members of VCA calling their team off the
stage in protest of the decision by the Quiz master and judges. The game came to stand still
and the audience became agitated by the situation. Meanwhile, the head pastor of MCF called
on the leadership of the MCF YYAM to allow VCA return to the game without
implementing the rules in order to avoid the conference ending in confusion and so that the
purpose of the conference can be achieved. This was agreed and team VCA was called upon
and the games started again. With little enthusiasm from the audience and teams as a result of
the decision by organizers to allow VCA compete, the game continued and VCA emerged as
winner of the 2014 NBQ.
After presentation of awards to the first and second winners, and certification of contributing
churches, followed by benediction, the audience was ushered into the court yard of MCF for
breaking of bread in fried rice, chicken, barbeque and juice. Over 500 persons including
children were served well-prepared meal with water/juice. Again, the overall state of affairs
was peaceful and glorious.

VI. Conclusion
The 2014 Youth Awakening Worship Conference which sought to awaken young people to the
move of God in this generation was assessed to be generally successful in that it brought together
young people from various churches and denomination in Monrovia to jointly seek the glory of
God. Also, the National Bible Quizzing which aimed at establishing young people in the word of
God proved fruitful as the competition motivated young people (including quizzing teams and
those in the audience) into studying the Word of God.
Nonetheless, there are few areas that still need improvement. First, there is a need to develop the
capacity of youth groups so as to enable them adequately produce fruits of the kingdom
according to their abilities. Indeed, most of the participating churches and audience expressed
desire to grow in various capacities in which they served and witness during the conference. If
these youth group can begin to work together long before the next conference, this could result in
a national revival that could shake our nation for the glory of Jesus Christ.
A second priority area is the National Bible Quizzing. Several essential components are needed
to assure not only the success of the upcoming 2015 NBQ program, but the overall duration of
the NBQ. With respect to the just ended NBQ churches’ leadership and youth groups,
parents/guardians, as well as partners can contribute to consolidating for the success of the future
of the NBQ by (a) supporting youth groups Bible quizzing teams at church level and in homes;
(b) sponsorship for publicity and presentation of attractive prices that would motivate young
people to join their local church’s Bible quizzing team; (c) allowing the use of churches’
premises as venues for Bible, quizzing games, (d) reputable Christian leaders serving as quiz
masters and judges; and (e) support from the Christian community at district and national levels.
Finally, with respect to the Awakening Conference, young people in the body of Christ must be
readily available and prepared to take up certain duties as we reach the lost and start a revival
that will awaken our generation to the move of God throughout Liberia. Some of the areas of
preparation as was observed during the conference includes but not limited to; (a) training
worshippers – Musicians and singers; (b) training ushers (c) training public speakers; (d) training
of leaders; (e) training evangelists (f) training administrators, and (g) training comedian and
other ignored talents in the body of Christ. These efforts combined with local churches’ youth
groups own initiatives in these areas could provide a more solid foundation for a self and long-
term sustaining of a great awakening in our generation.

  • 12. Page12 VI. Conclusion The 2014 Youth Awakening Worship Conference which sought to awaken young people to the move of God in this generation was assessed to be generally successful in that it brought together young people from various churches and denomination in Monrovia to jointly seek the glory of God. Also, the National Bible Quizzing which aimed at establishing young people in the word of God proved fruitful as the competition motivated young people (including quizzing teams and those in the audience) into studying the Word of God. Nonetheless, there are few areas that still need improvement. First, there is a need to develop the capacity of youth groups so as to enable them adequately produce fruits of the kingdom according to their abilities. Indeed, most of the participating churches and audience expressed desire to grow in various capacities in which they served and witness during the conference. If these youth group can begin to work together long before the next conference, this could result in a national revival that could shake our nation for the glory of Jesus Christ. A second priority area is the National Bible Quizzing. Several essential components are needed to assure not only the success of the upcoming 2015 NBQ program, but the overall duration of the NBQ. With respect to the just ended NBQ churches’ leadership and youth groups, parents/guardians, as well as partners can contribute to consolidating for the success of the future of the NBQ by (a) supporting youth groups Bible quizzing teams at church level and in homes; (b) sponsorship for publicity and presentation of attractive prices that would motivate young people to join their local church’s Bible quizzing team; (c) allowing the use of churches’ premises as venues for Bible, quizzing games, (d) reputable Christian leaders serving as quiz masters and judges; and (e) support from the Christian community at district and national levels. Finally, with respect to the Awakening Conference, young people in the body of Christ must be readily available and prepared to take up certain duties as we reach the lost and start a revival that will awaken our generation to the move of God throughout Liberia. Some of the areas of preparation as was observed during the conference includes but not limited to; (a) training worshippers – Musicians and singers; (b) training ushers (c) training public speakers; (d) training of leaders; (e) training evangelists (f) training administrators, and (g) training comedian and other ignored talents in the body of Christ. These efforts combined with local churches’ youth groups own initiatives in these areas could provide a more solid foundation for a self and long- term sustaining of a great awakening in our generation.
