2. Who abuses children? According to the statistics in P.R. the majority of perpetrators of child mistreatment (77%) are parents and another (11%) are relatives of the victim. Parental risk factors include young or single parents. These can be abused as children or endured a severely dysfunctional home life. An 61% of perpetrators are female. Some of this parents use drugs, alcohol and have psychiatric disease.

3. Who abuses children? The sexual abuse is most often associated with male offenders. Some of this people are under age 40. In Puerto Rico the case of child’s or teenagers being abused start at less than 1 year old and that represent the 67%.
