2. Einführung mit Geschichte:
Wir arbeiteten auf einem Anwesen in London, um besonders
den jungen Leuten auf verschiedene Weise zu helfen.
Dabei schnappte ich auf, wie einer der Jungs seinen Freund
nach dem Namen von einem unserer Arbeiter fragte. Der
Junge erwiderte:
„Oh, sein Name ist Kirche!“.
We were working on an estate in London, helping youngsters in particular in
various ways.
I overhead one of the lads ask his friend what was the name of one of our
workers. The lad replied, “Oh! His name is church!”

3. Einige Meinungen:
*Du kannst nicht zur Kirche gehen, du kannst nur Kirche
sein. Natürlich kann und sollte sich die Kirche treffen.
*Sind wir mehr in die Kirche verliebt als in Gott?
*Wenn du die Kirche suchst, wirst du nicht
notwendigerweise das Königreich finden, aber wenn du das
Königreich Gottes suchst, wirst du die Kirche finden.
Some Statements:
*You cannot go to church you can only be church. Of course the church can meet
and should.
*Are we in love with Church rather than in Love with God?
*If you seek the Church you won’t necessarily find the Kingdom, but if you seek
the Kingdom of God you will find the church

4. Vorschläge für Gruppenarbeit:
1. Wie sehr widersprechen sich deine Sprache und deine
Taten?
Zum Beispiel sagen wir, dass die Kirche kein Gebäude ist,
aber irgendwie wird das Treffen in dem Gebäude wichtiger
als alles andere. Wo finden wir weiteren Widerspruch
zwischen Sprache und Taten?
Group work suggestions:
1. How much does our Language and actions contradict each other?
For example, we say the church is not a building, but somehow the meeting
in that building becomes more important than everything else. What other
areas does language and action contradict?

5. 2. Was ist es, dass Menschen sehen, wenn sie uns sehen?
Zum Beispiel unterrichtete ein ziemlich schlecht gelaunter
Mann eine Sonntags-schulklasse. Er wollte den Kindern mit

2. What is it that people see when they see us?
For example; a rather miserable bad tempered man used to teach a Sunday School class. He wanted to
get into the children’s heads that, as a Christian, people should know that we are. So he asked, “When
people say to me, “You are a Christian,” why would they say that?” One of his students answered, they
probably would say it because they do not know you!

4. What things could we do that demonstrates to others that we are followers of Jesus?
For example, Luke Chapter 6 Verse 29
If someone slaps you on one cheek, turn to them the other also. If someone takes your coat, do not
withhold your shirt from them.

8. 5. Es kommt mir so vor, dass das Werk Israels im Alten
Testament darin bestand, den Namen Jehovas/Gottes
bekannt zu machen unter den Nationen und ihn zu
verherrlichen, jedoch ist genau das Gegenteil passiert.
Zum Beispiel Römer 2, 24
genau wie es in der Schrift heißt: »Euretwegen wird der Name
Gottes bei den Völkern in den Schmutz gezogen.
(Zitiert aus Jesaja 52: 5 und Hesekiel 36:20 & 22)
5. It seems to me that the work of Israel in the Old Testament, was to make the name of Jehovah / God known
to the nations, and to have Him glorified – however, the opposite happened. Are we, as Church, in danger of
doing the same thing? For Example; Romans Chapter 2 verse 24.
As it is written: “God’s name is blasphemed among the Gentiles because of you.” (NIV)
Quoting: Isaiah 52:5 and Ezekiel 36:20 &22

9. 6. Ich habe gesagt, wir können nur Kirche „sein“, nicht zur
Kirche gehen, aber kannst du Kirche sein ganz alleine für dich?
Zum Beispiel sagen Leute in England oft, ich liebe Gott, ich
möchte Jesus nachfolgen, aber ich möchte nicht zur Kirche
gehen, das gefällt mir nicht.
6. I have said, “We can only ‘Be’ church, you cannot go to Church.” But can you be Church all by
yourself?
For Example, People often say (in the UK anyway), “I love God. I want to follow Jesus, but I don’t
want to “go” to church – I don’t like it.”
