The ideation assignment ab aug 2013. Design Thinking Action Lab, Stanford
1. Ideation assignment
Work being made under the assumption that we do have no limits related to creativity, timeframe,
scale of the change prosed, costs, political, religion and sociological consequences ….
...why not ? ...in search of new perspective & new solutions...

A. List of ideas proposal
I’m treating that exercise more widely – as a tool to find a systematic solution for all students (aslo
for the future, which will be radically different! ) as I noticed that we do have very similar
problems in every country from which people are participating in these MOOS course .
The Stakeholder needs more education from the soft skills perspective in order to be defined as fully
educated person as per, and we should support him in developing three areas of competencies
according to the latest definition of the entrepreneurship education model (as per Heinonenand
Poikkijoki, 2006) which will provide students with competencies in the following three areas
- Attitudes
- Skills and
- Knowledge.
For the purpose of that exercise I will use the TRIZ model and the 9 Windows tool.
What Is TRIZ?
TRIZ is the Russian acronym for "Theory of Inventive Problem Solving." An emerging science, TRIZ
presents a structured method for creative thinking.
The Multi-Screen Diagram (also known as 9 Windows, 9 Screens or System Operator) was used in
order to prepare proposals for problem’s solving.
What is it ?
The multi-screen diagram of thinking specifies that any specific system (product, technology,
organization, etc.) can be viewed at three levels: system (the system itself within its boundaries), sub-
systems and super-system. In addition, at each level, the past and the future of the system, super-
system or super-system are considered to understand what factors drive evolution of the system.
This approach helps to analyze the system's evolution by taking into account relationships with an
outer world and also predicts further evolution. According to Altshuller, this way of thinking is a
feature of outstanding inventors, artists, musicians – those who create breakthrough ideas by
seeing the world through the prism of system thinking. Although not easy to use, the multi-screen
diagram of thinking is a powerful tool of system analysis and forecast.

(1760-1840)
8. education system is not
effective to prepare
students for uncertain
time
9. new system model
effective and linked to the
knowledge era
The uncertainty is related to a situation when we do have complex and dynamic changes – and this is
exactly characteristic of the 21’st century situation on the market place and economy.
We can identify quite significant contradiction between education process of youth (old – related to
industrial revolution organization of schools, curriculum and education methodology) and what is
required in a day to day life (both from the professional and personal POV – point of view).
According to Donna Kelley (prof. at Babson College) – the most important set of competencies for
every human being is the ‘attitude’.
Therefore the 9 Windows model supports me in generating a proposal for student.
1. Window 1 (A/X) in the Model - family/early school/religion did not support proper kid’s
personality development
1.1. We need to prepare parents to have kids 20 years earlier
1.2. the kids age up to 5 years is the most important to develop healthy personality and
curiosity
1.3. analyze the situation going backwards and review values which drive parents – moral,
religion, which are the most important and which will drive society development in
the future
1.4. Start to prepare young kids for the future
1.5. We should support kids in development – not “teach” them –like a horticulturist
ensuring the optimal conditions of development and growth for plants
1.6. Review all religions and select he most important element to set up an universal
educational model for youth (a key role will play a Judaism)
3. 2. Window 2 (B/X) in the Model - student is driven by external motivation – position, pay etc.
Develop mind and personality through :
2.1. set of the most important competencies form the attitude group IMPORTANT values
and intrinsic motivation:
2.1.1.beliefs – spiritual, moral, social, intellectual, economic, political
2.1.2.values - are global abstract principles that serve as guiding principles in people's lives -
freedom, honesty, equality, beauty, harmony, cooperation, happiness, order, wisdom
2.2. and maintain natural curiosity of kids / students
2.3. tolerance for unknown ideas, facts, religions and different POVs
2.4. ability to present own opinions
2.5. nonconformity
2.6. studying life stories of ancient experts (e.g. Plato, Pythagoras)
2.7. study other regions and history of successful people
2.8. set up own LIFE MANIFEST
2.9. answer to the question ‘why I’m living for ?’
3. Window 3 (C/X) in the Model - 3. student is motivated & owns all competencies required :
Upon agree what is the list of the most important competencies from Attitude perspective in our LIFE
- I’d add that we need to ensure that these competencies will be set up and sustain through the
whole entire life of the kid.
Three attitude components key elements:
3.1 Cognitive: what we believe
3.2 Affective: our feelings
3.3 Behavioral: learned associations.
And serve a number of motivational functions:
3.4 Ego-defensive
3.5 Value-expressive
3.6 Instrumental: gain social acceptance or avoid disapproval
3.7 Knowledge: organize social world.
4. Window 4 (A/Y) in the Model - 4. kid's preparation and education process kills creativity and
develop conformity
And Window 7 (A/X). - current educational system model proper for industrial revolution
which took place 250 years ago (1760-1840)
4.1. Change the educational process in order to ensure that kids development will be
comparable with pupils from Switzerland, Sweden, Singapore, Finland, United
Kingdom, Netherlands, Denmark, Hong Kong (China) – the most innovative countries
around the world
4. 4.2. Replace the 200+ years old edu system suitable for industrial revolution with the
most proper for the knowledge management era
4.3. Extend the MOOC education solution on the primary and secondary schooling process
4.4. Change the position of kids and students – treat them as customers and the most
important stakeholder
4.5. Ask customers what they need to be included in the curriculum
4.6. Ensure optimal environment for learning by kids – like farmer for plants
4.7. Tolerate diversity and different POVs in schools
4.8. Let students manage the learning process
5. Window 5 (B/Y) in the Model - 5. student is not prepared to his/her life / work and W 8. (B/Z
education system is not effective to prepare students for uncertain time
5.1. We do not have a widely used system to scan for early signals of changes and trends in
science, technology, business, society, global politics, and the environment – we need
to implement it .
5.2. we can organize ad-hoc trainings for a given student to increase his/her competencies
– but that will be never ending story if don’t find a systematic solution for all students
5.3. make competencies tests/evaluation of student to identify the most urgent needs
5.4. implement daily mind accounting exercise – answering to the question what went OK,
what wrong, and what should be improved
5.5. create a website for developing the lacking attributes of students personality in every
local language (depending on the culture) which will support all students around the
world
5.6. identify the biggest and most important contradictions in students education and use
it as a starting point to apply the remedy (e.g the final result of education does not
depend on the spending per student : e.g. China spends only 10% of the budget in the
USA and 30% what in Poland per student and China has much better results)
5.7. First step: eliminate competition and grading process of students – teach co-operation
and group results/achievements
5.8. Create the best practice principles and a direct linkage between Universities, Institutes
and Industry to transfer know how and knowledge in the age of Knowledge
Management
5.9. Let the best students / universities around the world to work on a universal
educational curriculum for every society
5.10. Create a virtual society of all people supporting that idea to promote such values -
the process by example will be the nest as it will create a pull process vs. push – let
them make an education and business together
5.11. Promote peace and cooperation in place of competition and wars
5.12. Make us more TOLERANT - eliminate an influence of religions on the decisions taken
at every Country level – that will allow to establish better cooperation and knowledge
exchange
5.13. Create a possibility of evaluation of most critical competencies for everybody
5.14. Promote a social entrepreneurship / capitalism
5.15. Agree on the universal competencies needs from 3 groups – attitude, skills,
knowledge
5. 5.16. Limit an influence of big corporation on the economy development – eliminate a key
contradictions in the health service/industry – corporation ‘discover’ new diseases in
order to provide remedies – obesity, ADHD etc.
5.17. Share the earth wealth equally between all human beings
5.18. Agree between all countries on the most important “TO DO” list for our civilization
5.19. Concentrate on the sustainability and the CSR really , because as of today these are
very popular slogans being used for the marketing purpose having nothing to do with
reality
5.20. Develop empathy and understanding of different cultures
5.21. Make working the Prof. Richard Florida’s of the ‘Creative Class’ definition and merge
the following to develop the “human capital”:
5.21.1. Technology / Technics
5.21.2. Talents
5.21.3. Tolerance and
5.21.4. Working Ethics as the main value of the Protestant Society
B. the three selected ideas
B1 – Educate KIDS
Window 1 (A/X) in the Model - family/early school/religion did not support proper kid’s
personality development
5.22. We need to prepare parents to have kids 20 years earlier
5.23. the kids age up to 5 years is the most important to develop healthy personality and
curiosity
5.24. analyze the situation going backwards and review values which drive parents –
moral, religion, which are the most important and which will drive society
development in the future
5.25. Start to prepare young kids for the future
5.26. We should support kids in development – not “teach” them –like a horticulturist
ensuring the optimal conditions of development and growth for plants
5.27. Review all religions and select he most important element to set up an universal
educational model for youth (a key role will play a Judaism)
Comments : We need to answer onto few key questions related to education :
1. What is a purpose of education for every person and a society ? – to be employed, get profit,
make profit for the 3rd
party, develop curiosity etc.
2. What does mean modern educational system ?
3. How to increase the value added of the time being spent at school for kids and for the
society ?
6. 4. What is the LLL life-long learning ?
5. What competencies makes people employable in today’s world ?
6. How to make people active in the society ?
7. How to ensure that attitude being developed in early age will support people when they
adult
8. We know the IQ index and the EQ (emotional); how about spirituality development ?
9. We do have operations manual for every item purchased (iron, phone, radio, MP3,4; car,
etc.) , so how to address the HUMAN operational manual ?
B2 – Implement the process of ‘The Rise of the Creative Class’ – by R. Florida worldwide
5.21 Make working the Prof. Richard Florida’s of the ‘Creative Class’ definition
and merge the following to develop the “human capital”:
i. Technology / Technics
ii. Talents
iii. Tolerance and
iv. Working Ethics as the main value of the Protestant Society
That list consists of enablers to make innovative and happy society – effectively manage
knowledge, crowds wisdom and develop “culture of the future”
B3 – New society
5.28. Agree on the universal competencies needs from 3 groups – attitude, skills,
knowledge
5.9 Let the best students / universities around the world to work on a universal
educational curriculum for every society
5.10 Create a-www of the virtual society of all people supporting that idea to promote
such values - the process by example will be the best as it will create a pull process vs.
push – let them make an education and business together
We need to work on the change of the paradigm ho we are utilizing natural resources, how we
educate youth and how we are cooperating – educating and doing business.
As a natural consequence will be to create a new “conscious capitalism” and collaboration
around the world.
