South African businessman Mark Shuttleworth rode a Russian Soyuz spacecraft to and from the International Space Station during a 10-day mission that ended May 5, 2002. He paid a reported $20 million and in the process became the world's second fare paying space tourist. Just like Dennis Tito , the first space tourist, before him, Shuttleworth's flight sparked an interest in spaceflight among new audiences around the world.
