This document provides a summary of activities occurring throughout various Lake County departments and offices over the course of a day. It describes a sheriff's deputy responding to a traffic incident in the morning, the Traffic Management Center notifying motorists of an accident, and various other services being provided throughout the day, such as a health department providing flu shots, the County Board holding a meeting, and a judge overseeing a criminal trial.

2. We have a balanced budget at $502 Million.
We have AAA bond rating – the highest rating possible.
The number of employees is down 12% from eight
years ago.
Only 1.4% of the budget goes to debt service.
We plan ahead and use cash for big capital projects
which saves us millions of dollars in interest payments.
We maintain strong reserves for emergencies and to
protect the County from unexpected economic changes.
The County gets revenue from many sources including:
sales tax, income tax, and property tax.
We’re saving money through shared service agreements
such as building inspections and sheriff’s patrol services.
We are using data-driven decision making to ensure we are spending wisely, and identifying and
implementing efficiency measures.
Lake County gets only 7% of your property tax payment. The rest goes to other taxing bodies with
schools getting the biggest piece (68%).

I’m happy and proud to serve as your county board chairman
for the next two years. I’m very excited about all that is
happening in county government – including the progress we
are making in improving our transportation system and the
collaborative planning taking place to advance the IL Route
53/120 corridor. I’m also proud of the county board’s
continued track record of practicing fiscal responsibility. We
adhere to a basic budget principle – don’t make short-term
decisions. We have a balanced budget, strong reserves and
AAA financial rating – the highest credit rating possible. We
plan, save, and invest wisely to yield long-term results. We use
data to drive budget decisions and evaluate our performance.
We are also being more efficient by sharing services with other governments, such as
