The name Bend was derived from “Farewell Bend.”

Bend was incorporated as a city in 1905. Economically, it started as a logging town but is
now identified as a gateway for many outdoor sports including mountain biking, fishing,
hiking, camping, rock climbing, white-water rafting, skiing, and golf.2
Bend and all of Oregon has no sales tax.

(New Jersey being the other).4
Bend is home to the Deschutes Brewery, the 5th largest microbrewery in the nation.

In our little mountain town of 82,000 people, Bend has 14 world-class craft breweries
(and counting).6
Bend has the highest average number of sunny days in the state, with an average of
158 clear days per year and an additional 105 days that are mostly sunny. Many of the
remaining days provide substantial sunshine.7
The nearest commercial airport is Roberts Field in Redmond, 18 miles north.

leash areas in city parks and national forests.9
Bend also has an exceptional selection of small grocery stores offering local and organic
options. For the summer months, don’t miss the Bend Farmers Market every Wednesday
afternoon in Drake Park, every Friday afternoon at St. Charles Medical Center and every
Saturday from June 20 - September 19th at NorthWest Crossing.11
In 2012, St. Charles Medical Center was recognized as one of the best health systems in the
nation for quality and efficiency for the fourth year running.12
