describe your past

6. How to write a good CV
Layout:
make simple and clear headlines and paragraphs
short and precise sentences
be careful with too much ”noise”
2-3 pages, but not font size 8
consistency between CV and cover letter
target the CV to the job you are applying for
7. How to write a good cover letter
Do research on the company and on the
position and use it in the cover letter
Find information about the company culture,
their products, position in the market,
competitors, company values, management,
etc.
Use your network. Do you know anybody who
works there? Use Linkedin.

apply even though you cannot live up to all the

make the cover letter unique for this particular

11. Before applying
It is more than ok to contact the company – have
good questions prepared (if not don´t call)
If possible direct your cover letter to a specific
person in the company
ask questions about the company - it shows initiative
ask about things that were unclear/not mentioned in
the job add

if yes, then for which positions?
what kind of responsibilities do they have?
which personal competences are important to have in
the job?

13. When applying
be as precise and specific as possible
describe why you are applying for a job in this company
explain what you can do for them
adjust your CV to be as relevant for the company as
possible
focus on what you can do – not on what you cannot do
follow-up within 3-5 days if you have not got a
confirmation of receiving your application

Purpose of the exercise: to teach you how to write a cv and
learn from your fellow students
Description of the exercise: In small groups discuss the cvs of
the other participants of the group counseling.
