ARTS has been dealing with the subject of personnel training for years, and
has repeatedly conducted qualification programs focussed on aviation, for
example for aircraft mechanics or aircraft electricians. This year it again
launched an initiative for training aircraft mechanics in a joint action
with Trainico GmbH. All eleven participants have successfully completed the
theoretical examinations with flying colours.
The economy in Saxony is desperately seeking specialised personnel, and is facing major demographic
challenges: In the next ten years the state will increasingly need qualified personnel, because according to the
employment office over 400,000 workers will be retiring due to age. Especially for manufacturing companies,
such as Elbe Flugzeug Werke (EFW), it will become increasingly difficult to find industrial workers with
appropriate certifications for the industry. In response to EFW's project request, ARTS started a qualification
course for "Structural Aircraft Mechanics", whereby ARTS took on project management of everything from the
application process and candidate support to project work. The training of eleven prospective industry entrants
began in September 2015 at the location of the education partner Trainico, in Wildau near Berlin. In the six-
month training program participants learned structural modification of aviation technology in all its diversity,
and received theoretical and practical instruction before starting their eight-week internship at EFW in
Dresden.
"Training and retraining initiatives must be increasingly invested in to maintain the connection as a major
industrial centre. More than 150 candidates applied for the coveted training places. We especially took pains to
ensure that all participants had previously completed training in metalworking, and that they had obtained the
requirements for aviation to a large degree," said Stephanie Reisner, project supervisor at ARTS.
At the end of October all participants passed the theory exam with distinction (over 90 percentage points).
Candidates are particularly satisfied with the teaching methods and the very balanced relationship between
theory and practice. "There were a lot of highlights to the training, such as the screws on an A-300 aircraft
fuselage in the training workshop, whereby we carried out various dismantling tasks on the ceiling lining. I'm
looking forward to next steps", said the participant Mr König.
