So why do South Africans fail to
provide adequately for retirement?
1. Over 80% of employees in South Africa are in defined contribution
retirement arrangements –but what you get out is a huge unknown.
2. Employees find it hard to commit to something which is so far
away in the future, when they have pressing financial
commitments now.
3. When employees retire they tend to cash out their retirement savings

4. When employees retire, they tend to spend the cash windfall or buy poor pension products with
inappropriate investment strategies.
5. Monies are invested with investment managers who charge high fees which are not justified by

outcomes of the individual employee.
7. Trustees of retirement funds are not accountable to look after the financial interests of the
individual member.
8. Experts who advise Trustees tend to be highly specialised in specific areas, with limited or no
integration between the various disciplines required to ensure individual members achieve
appropriate retirement outcomes.
9. Zero accountability from entities to the individual employee. The individual employee is fully
accountable for their retirement provision – a tall ask when people differ so vastly in terms of
individual circumstances and financial literacy.

Who is AOS?
In April 2008, Neerejh Ramlakhan started AOS, to fight for the individual employee and their retirement
dream, a basic human right. Over the years more than 2.7 million people’s lives have been improved by our
efforts as retirement fund consultants and actuaries. But our quest is to serve the individual employee far
wider and deeper in South Africa and the World

So we created Golden Years
 “To help people retire with
certainty”
Our Value proposition
1. We actuarially calculate a target retirement outcome for each individual employee at a selected
retirement date.
2. We then create an integrated advice, investment, administration, audit and monitoring program to get
each individual employee to their target retirement income.
3. If we don’t get each individual employee to their target, we will give that individual employee a 100%
refund of all the fees we charged them from our date of appointment until they retire.
Our credentials
1. We collectively advise retirement fund arrangements representing over 10 000 employers,
500 000 employees and over R120 billion of savings.
2. We have in-house actuarial, investment and administration skills to deliver.
3. We have a strict accreditation system of third party providers, to support our delivery to the
individual employee.
