The L90 sits at the top of LG's recently introduced mid-range L Series III lineup and runs Android KitKat. Unlike other manufacturers that water down their affordable devices in comparison to their high-end flagships, the South Korean brand’s offering gets all its software features from the top-end smartphones, the G2 and G Pro 2. Let’s take a visual tour of the LG L90 Dual's features, capabilities and real-world performance.
2. Distinctive design and good handling
• Extremely slim bezels just like the
LG G2 and G Pro 2
• Four non-backlit keys below the
screen instead of the standard
three-button layout
• Placed alongside the back, home
and options key, a dedicated SIM
switch button gives the option to
quickly change the default calling
SIM
• Features an IR blaster on the top
panel
• The textured back cover makes
for easy handling
• Can be used with a single hand
comfortably
3. Lovely 4.7-inch display
• A 4.7-inch IPS panel adorns the front
• Displays rich colours. No signs of pixelation even though the
resolution is 960 x 540 pixels
• Sadly, misses out on an ambient light sensor which means that
brightness needs to be set manually
• Night Mode lowers the brightness automatically though
4. The camera app boasts tons of frills
• Fitted with 8-megapixel
camera at the back with an
LED flash
• The custom camera app makes
it easier to access various
shooting modes and adjust
various settings
• Allows shooting panoramas,
Time Catch and continuous
shots too
• Lets you adjust ISO, exposure
and brightness
• Also capable of recording full
HD videos
5. Decent camera quality but loses out on details
• The camera snaps good pictures, but pixelation creeps in as
soon as the images are zoomed in
• The front-facing VGA camera is just useful for video calling or
basic selfies
6. Runs Android 4.4 KitKat
• One of the very few devices
running the latest iteration of
Android
• Running atop the OS, there’s a
custom skin
• Right from the dialler and
messaging app to the lock
screen and app launcher,
everything has been modified
• Dragging the notification panel
from the top brings a row of
various toggles along with the
notifications
7. There’s a lot on offer, features-wise
• KnockCode allows you to create a
custom unlocking knock pattern that
works even when the display is off
• QSlide opens a few floating apps on
top of other apps
• Quick Remote lets you control your
TV with the use of IR emitter
• Clip Tray saves all the text / images
from the clipboard, making it easier
to paste them anywhere
• Smart Screen automatically turns off
the display or pauses the video when
you’re not facing the screen
• Plug and Play shows apps that can be
accessed as soon as earphones are
plugged in
• There are some preinstalled apps as
well, such as LG Backup and Nimbuzz
8. Runs basic tasks well
• A Qualcomm Snapdragon 400 quad-core chipset with a clock speed of
1.2GHz powers the show
• The processor is supplemented by 1GB of RAM
• Smoothly processes most of the tasks and quickly switches between
apps as well
• While playing graphics-heavy games, there are some jitters
• Becomes quite hot even after 15 to 20 minutes of gameplay
9. Takes care of your storage requirements, but
not without a microSD card
• Loaded with 8GB of onboard
storage out of which around
3.68GB is available out of the
box
• Enough for installing most of
the apps and games including
sizeable ones like Asphalt 8
• Can be extended by making
use of a microSD card of up to
32GB
• Sadly, misses out on the USB
OTG feature, which means you
can’t plug in your USB drive
10. Strong battery life
• With general usage, the L90
Dual can run for more than a
day
• Even with heavy usage, the
device can give you a day’s
worth of backup
• Power Saver feature is also
available to conserve the
battery when it’s low
• Switches off Wi-Fi and
Bluetooth when the battery is
below a certain threshold
11. At a glance
• 4.7-inch, 960 x 540 pixels
(245 ppi)
• 1.2GHz quad-core Qualcomm
Snapdragon 400 processor
• Adreno 305 GPU
• 1GB RAM
• 8GB storage with microSD
slot
• 8MP primary camera with
flash, 0.3MP front camera
• Android 4.4.2 KitKat
• 2,540mAh battery
• Dual-SIM (3G support only on
the first slot), Wi-Fi,
Bluetooth and GPS
12. -
• Average camera
• Middling specs
• Lacks a notification
LED and ambient
light sensor
• Non-backlit
navigation keys
Pros and cons
+
• Sturdy build quality
• Good display
• All-day battery life
• Useful software
features
13. Pricing and verdict
“The LG L90 delivers a very good experience thanks to a nice
combination of hardware and software. LG’s addition of
software features on top of Android 4.4 KitKat comes in
handy in many situations. Its pricing might seem a tad
higher compared to the competition, but the L90 is still a
worthy dual-SIM option to consider in the mid-range
territory.”
