- The story of how we got here and what informs where we are going is best understood by taking a quick look at the past three years.

- There are many ways we approach this complex set of issues – here’s how we have chosen to do so in a strategic and respectful/honoring way
- So these are obviously vulnerable kids and families living in both urban and rural places --- many of our MC sites. So there is a call to action 3 years ago we didn’t know what the call sounded like, and we got involved in this work to understand what we might do. We discovered there was a lot to do. We also discovered that there are clear benefits to AECF and the world of philanthropy; gains to be made by engaging in this work—list above.
- I wanted to share a few words from the people we work with and seek to support. We begin there because that’s where we start the work – listening to them, learning from them, determining the course of action based on their aspirations and challenges. We hear what they know, and develop strategies to secure what they need. So before we move into sharing accomplishments, connections to our work, the vision moving forward. In other words, before we move into the details, I want to tell you a story about when I sat down with Antonio….Mikaela and I asked him questions….his eyes twinkled when he looked at us and said, QUOTE ABOVE. So what people are telling us is that they are strong, wealthy in so many ways, and that they know that there is much to be done to build healthy communities. That’s what we at AECF can do – standing shoulder to shoulder with the people who are the real “experts.”
