  1. Addressing the skills agenda as a means to drive the economy is at the forefront of policy discussion facing every government. The Voc Ed and Training sector has a critical role to play. Through its reach the VET sector is an enabler providing opportunity for people to maximise their personal potential through all stages of their working lives. The VET sector has served Australia well lifting the skills base of its workforce meeting the challenges of new and emerging industry so they can be competitive and sustainable in the global economy.It’s success is the strong commitment and partnership approach between government, industry and the training provider. In this presentation i will give you a overview of Australia,s VET system and the role of industry.
  2. The Australian VET system is successful because it is industry led. Employers, unions, professional associations define the outcomes required.It is jointly managed by all levels of government and is client and outcome focussed
  3. A key feature of AQF qualifications promote lifelong learning and allow people to start at the level that suits them and then build up their qualifications and move between different education systems as their needs and interests develop and change over time.
  4. The AQF includes Guidelines on Cross-Sector Qualification Linkages that enable students to move from one qualification to another in more efficient, providing clients effective learning pathways.
  5. This slideillustrates the link between the educational and occupational levels.
  6. ASQA is the national regulator for VET and is Responsible for registering training organisations and accrediting coursesAll training providers must be registered with ASQAOnce registered organisations are known as Registered Training Providers (RTO)
  7. I have mentioned the important role industry has in the VET agenda. This is achieved at the national level through Industry skills councils of which there are 11Industry Skills Councils represent most industry sectors to bring together, educators and governments and unite them on a common industry-led agenda for action on skills and workforce developmentRecognised and funded by the Australian GovernmentGoverned by independent, industry led boardsNot-for-profit companies limited by guarantee Agriculture construction and property services, manufacturing, engineering, transport, business, mining, engineering and telecommunication community services and health .
  8. Quality aspects of TP development include:Environmental Scans:Every year, each of the 11 Industry Skills Councils prepare an Environmental Scan of their respective industries. Based on real-time industry views and evidence from across Australia, the Scans operate as ‘early warning systems’ and give readers a clear understanding of the factors currently shaping and impacting on workforce development and how well the products and services of Australia’s tertiary system are responding. Training Package Continuous Improvement PlansEach Industry Skills Council produces a Continuous Improvement Plan in order to meet the existing and emerging skill needs of industry. The Plan is updated annually, and posted on each ISC’s website to ensure industry, Registered Training Organisations and State and Territory Training Authorities are able to plan and respond accordingly
