THE PAT TILLMAN FOUNDATION'S MILITARY SCHOLARS PROGRAM: supports our nation's active and veteran servicemembers and their families by removing financial barriers to completing a degree or certification program of choice. 4. McChord art show Adults are invited to bring in their creative works June 27 to July 3 for an art exhibit July 5 to 19 at the McChord Library. The arts and crafts will be on display for the “Midsummer Knight’s Read” summer reading program. Smaller and more delicate works will be placed in a display cabinet. The JBLM Golf Tournament is held at the Whispering Firs Golf Course on July 8, shotgun start at 1 p.m. Four player scramble at $75 per player includes green fees, cart, range balls, awards banquet, tee gifts and prizes for winning teams based on number of entries. 7. Explore a 723-acre park, which is home to more than 200 North American animals, a lake, trails and beautiful natural exhibits. See bighorn sheep, caribou, beaver and grizzly bear from the 55-minute tram tour. Enjoy the warmth and hands-on experiences in the Discovery Center and Baker Research Cabin, or have lunch at the Fir Bough Café. Dress warm, and bring rain gear. 8. USO Puget Sound Area On Saturday, June 25, USOPSA JBLM Center hosted a movie in the park for 200 people! Those who attended saw Disney’s movie Tron. Hot dogs, chips, Girl Scout cookies and swag were provided. If you missed out, the JBLM center will be hosting another movie in the park on July 8, at 7:30 p.m. the movie showing will be “Despicable Me”. 13. Summer reading: McChord Library activities are scheduled for Tuesdays at 1 p.m. for youth and 3 p.m. for teens starting July 5. Book Patch Library is holding story times Wednesdays at 10:30 a.m. starting June 22. Book Patch activities are Thursdays, 1 to 3 p.m. starting June 23. 14. ANTHONY SLATER BASKETBALL ACADEMY will be held at the teen zone, aug 1-3, 9-11 AM for ages 5-10 yrs, 1-3 PM for ages 11-18 yrs. Anthony Slater has an undeniable passion for showing young children their dream of playing basketball is achievable and possible. Register through July 29 at Parent Central Services for $60. 17. Teen Late Night Join other youth center teens ages 13–18 at Teen Late Night Friday, July 22 for music, pizza, open recreation games and a chance to make new friends from 10 p.m. to midnight. Due to the base curfew, parents or guardians need to pick up participants.
18. Free Community Car Wash Need your car washed? Drive to the youth center Thursday, July 28 or Friday, July 29, 5–8 p.m. and we’ll wash it for free!

20. Camp JBLM 2011: Registration packets are available at the Waller Hall ACS EFMP office or on-line at http://www.jblmmwr.com/acs_efmp.html. The overnight registration is full, but 20 August Day Camp is open; registration ends July 16. 22. Another section of 41st Division Drive will be closed from July 5 to 22 for road work between Ohio/Colorado avenues and Nevada/Tacoma avenues. Closure and detours will be effective from 6 p.m. to 5:30 a.m. during site working hours. Traffic to and from the residential area west of the intersection of 41st Division Drive and Ohio Avenue will not be affected. Traffic to and from the NCO facility on 41st Division Drive will use the NCO access road to enter and exit the facility. Traffic to and from businesses in the adjacent area will enter and exit via Colorado Avenue.

24. The D Street Gate on JBLM Lewis North: The next East Drive project plans repairs starting at the end of the D-Street widening to DuPont/Steilacoom Road requiring road closure in July.
25. Drivers using Jackson Avenue near Madigan Army Medical Center should expect delays for a few months as contractors begin repairing a one-mile stretch of road from the barricades near the Madigan Gate to Transmission Line Road. The project is scheduled for completion in August. More information about traffic revision updates and construction changes will come as the contractor announces them.
