MP Studio collaborated with RVK, Lehmann Engineering, George Schroeder and TCI to produce the construction documentation for this vertical steel wayfinding sign. First in a series of signs along the Lackland Gateway Corridor, it will mark the entrance to the Lackland Gateway Corridor Monument Plaza. RVK designed the wayfinding sign to incorporate a propeller blade monument that enhances the strong aviation theme of the development. Lehmann Engineering designed the structural members and drilled reinforced concrete pier that support the sign. George Schroeder added invaluable fabrication expertise that informed our material selections. RVK provided a SketchUp model to MP Studio as a starting point for creating the construction documents. MP Studio extracted 2D CAD files from the SketchUp model, refined them in AutoCAD and then 3D modeled the sign in AutoCAD. The model was then imported into Rhino to create the waffle structure that supports the propeller blade monument. Rhino was also used to unroll the propeller blade monument cladding into flat patterns for CNC cutting of the panels. The results were then imported back into AutoCAD for extraction of the 2D details and final construction documentation. MP Studio is pleased to be involved in making this unique wayfinding sign a reality.
