The polar bear population is decreasing drastically due to two main factors. Global warming is causing polar bears to die off by threatening their habitat. Hunters also kill polar bears for their fur and fat. Currently there are estimated to be 20,000-25,000 polar bears left in the wild. Their long term prospects depend on whether global warming can be stopped to allow their numbers to recover. People are encouraged to donate to polar bear conservation research and adopt more environmentally friendly practices to help address global warming.
