2. What is Zakah? Zakah is an obligatory charity that every Muslim has to pay if he or she has enough money. It is also the third pillar of Islam. It is a percentage of your wealth after nisaab.

3. Why is it called Zakah? Zakah is called Zakah because the general meaning is growing and purifying and that is what you do when you give Zakah. Your wealth grows and so does your reward in paradise.

4. Who has to give Zakah? Every Muslim has to give Zakah, once they have the required Nisaab for one whole year. Nisaab is the money that it left over after you have paid your necessities. Necessities are like food, drinks, clothes, bathroom stuff, car, etc.

5. How Zakah Helps the Community It helps balance the society so that the rich and the poor have closer amounts of money.

6. Who receives Zakah? Receivers of Zakah are the Al Furqaraa (the poor), Al Maskeen (the needy), Al Aamiloon (the Zakah officials), Al-Mu’allafatu Quloobuhum (friendly non Muslims or new Muslims), Ar- Riqaab (slaves and captives), Al- Ghaarimoon (debaters), Ibn-us-Sabeel (broke and stranded travelers).

7. What types of wealth we pay Zakah? Zakah is paid on the following: Money (gold, silver, cash, bonds, stocks, etc.) Business inventory Crops Cattle (sheep, goats, camels, cows) Treasures Minerals and metals

8. Types of Wealth Money/ Gold How much to pay The nisaab is money worth 3 ounces of gold. 2.5% of that is paid to zakah.
