students.
• Two students wounded
• 12 year-old shooter dead by turning gun on
himself.

• Sparks Middle School in Nevada
• On playground

5. When?
• Monday, October 21st
• During recess

6. Why?
• Shooter had been bullied by other
students at school.
• Shooter had access to weapon.
• Lack of supervision and attention at
home.

7. How?
• The 12 year-old was able to bring a gun
onto school property without anyone
noticing.
• The 12 year-old knew how to shoot the
gun.
• The 12 year-old shot the teacher despite
the teacher’s efforts to reason with him.

8. Power
• Government has power to restrict access
to weapons.
• Youth violence continues to be a problem
in this country.
• Government needs to develop prevention
programs to keep our schools safe.
