Slavery Started in the 1400s Slavery started in Africa and slaves came from there Most slaves went to the Carribean while some went to North America Rules included not able to gather in groups of four or more If they were caught escaping, they would get beaten up or made crippled

Civil War The North managed to stop the South from establishing itself as an independent republic The Civil rights and they novel “To Kill a Mocking Bird” both shows that everyone should have their own rights, including the blacks
Jim Crow Laws Jim Crow laws were laws which restricted the civil rights of the blacks Jim Crow laws were state or local laws which separated the Whites and Blacks
Jim Crow Laws However, the blacks were not happy as that would mean that the whites would have an advantage over the blacks Similar because blacks were considered to be lower-class than the whites
Civil Rights Movement Began in 1955, roughly in May It was caused by civil resistance August 1955, Fourteen-year-old Chicagoan Emmett Till is visiting family in Mississippi when he is attacked, and dumped in the Tallahatchie River for allegedly whistling at a white woman 1954, white students expected blacks to act like subordinates in Moton High school, things got out of control and caused a segregation The civil rights movement is similar as both situations show that discrimination against the blacks could get out of control
Civil Rights Movement President John F. Kennedy supported it The civil rights movement improved legal rights of the blacks, thus being equal as the rest Both were similar as the rights of blacks were fought for
Montgomery Bus Boycott and Scottsboro trials Rights of the blacks were fought for in the transport system, especially the bus Nine black teenaged boys accused of rape in Alabama in 1931 Both are similar because blacks were accused of rape
Southern Belle and Southern Gentleman Proper etiquette, penmanship, ballroom dancing, needle work (southern belle) Constant, admirable and endeavor(southern gentleman) Southern belle would just wait at home, doing little stuff
Atticus would be an example of a southern gentleman, as he is righteous and helpful Bob Ewell is not a southern gentleman as he is sly and cunning Southern Belle and Southern Gentleman
Harper Lee Born on 28 April 1926 Studied in University of Alabama Moved to New York City to fulfill her dream of being a writer Had two articles published: "Love - In Other Words" in Vogue, and "Christmas To Me" in McCall's
Harper Lee Won the Pulitzer Prize with her only novel “To Kill a Mocking Bird”, thus being significant This novel is also very meaningful because it describes the impact of racism against the blacks
