1. Stanley Kowalski resembles the color red. Red can symbolize compassion and true love, which
Stanley is capable of displaying to his wife, which tends to be before acts of intimacy. This causes
the reader to question and speculate upon the true intentions of Stanley Kowalski and hence the
symbolic meaning of the color red. As the story progresses this compassionate red darkens into
something sinister and evil. The changing of the red can also be represented by Stanley’s
unpredictable actions. This sinister red becomes dictated by the beastly instinct, cruel behavior and
sexual desire of Stanley Kowalski.
A symbol that represents Stanley Kowalski is a wife beater. It’s self explanatory as the shirt merely
explains his actions towards his wife. The shirt also brings out a very sexual and flirtacios
appearance about him which is could be a reason why Stella loves him despite his outrages and
furthermore why Blanche is so easily sucked into his game and manipulated by him.
The image above resembles Stanley Kowalski. Two face from Batman is a perfect symbol for Stanley
as there are two sides to Stanley however both are grim and sinister, one just more so than the
other. The side of the image above of two face that has not been burned is shown in dim light,
which can be said to resemble that slight bit of hope that Stella has for him, a reason why she hasn’t
and doesn’t leave him, because she sees this beauty and spark in him. However his facial expression
and wife beater say otherwise, and show a low life, and beast like man. The power of this spark that
Stella sees in him outweighs the actual appearance of the beast. The burned side of two face’s face
is more sinister than the previous, this is the face that is seen by Stanley Kowalski when he hits his
pregnant wife, and rapes his sister in law the night his wife gives birth to his son. The image
successfully displays how Stanley the sinister can transform into Stanley the crazed beast rapist.
