1. Target Audience
• Aged 15-22
• Targets both males and females
• People who are interested in music artists with a specialisation in pop
and smaller independent artists
2. Attraction
• Throughout my magazine, I have used house colours that aren’t definitely
associated with a single gender to make the magazine appeal to anyone who sees
it without them thinking the magazine is not written for them. I used whites, light
blues and blacks. While blue could be considered a masculine colour, it has
historically been associated with both males and females making it appeal to
both genders.
3. Front cover
• The front cover’s model image is lit
well and large, meaning that it
draws reader attention
immediately. The models are
roughly the same age as my target
audience and maintain eye
contact, meaning that the target
audience are likely to be able to
relate to the model image well.
Buzzwords like ‘Exclusive’ in the
top left hand corner draw
attention to the stories at the top.
4. Contents page
• The page is divided in to categories,
with competitions being listed under
‘Regulars’. Competitions invoke
reader participation, and the phrase
‘win big’ is used to encourage young
readers to view the article. Mail is
also listed under regulars, which also
encourages readers to participate
and relate with the magazine.
5. Double page spread
• A pull quote is used at the top of the page
to draw attention to the body of the
article. It has the effect of making the
reader want to read more of the article.
• The artist name is written in a large, bold
font which will attract the attention of any
reader flicking through the magazine.
• A drop capital is used at the start of the
first paragraph to draw reader attention
to the body text and encourage them to
read it.
• Like on the front cover, a medium shot of
the article subject is used. The shot
maintains direct eye contact with the
camera, which allows a reader to relate to
the model directly.
