Food is in fact that fuel that keeps us going like the petrol in cars, coal in engines and diesel in  trucks . Our body can be compared to a machine and is often called the   living machine

For living organisms, food is more than a fuel.

When our food contain all the six chemical substances in  right  proportion .

CLASSIFICATION OF FOOD/ FUNCTIONS OF FOOD FOOD ENEGRGY GIVING FOODS BODY BUILDING FOODS PROTECTIVE & REGULATORY FOODS Carbohydrates,Fats.proteins proteins Vitamins & minerals ,[object Object],[object Object],[object Object],[object Object],[object Object],[object Object]
A diet which contains all these substances in right proportions is called   COMPLETE  OR  BALANCED DIET
 
TO MAINTAIN A BALANCED DIET MUST CONTAIN FOOD ITEMS, FROM EACH OF THE FOLLOWING GROUPS
Bread, cereal, rice, pasta and noodles group   ,[object Object],[object Object],[object Object],[object Object],[object Object],[object Object],[object Object]
Vegetables group ,[object Object],[object Object],[object Object],[object Object],[object Object],[object Object],[object Object]
Fruit  ,[object Object],[object Object],[object Object],[object Object],[object Object],[object Object],[object Object],You need   2 or 3 servings every day
Milk, yoghurt and cheese group   ,[object Object],[object Object],[object Object],[object Object],[object Object],[object Object],[object Object]
Meat, poultry, fish, beans, eggs, nuts and legumes   ,[object Object],[object Object],[object Object],[object Object],[object Object],[object Object],[object Object],[object Object],This group is just as important to keep you healthy, but you can see from the size of the serving on the plate that your body doesn't need as much from this group as the others. 'Poultry' just means chicken, turkey and other birds.
